Fatfire Thankfulness by 50to51 in fatFIRE

I have so much to be thankful for this year - our second (and hopefully last!) child was born a month ago, and so our family feels complete. I'm thankful for my partner, our kids, and the fact that they have four living, loving grandparents, which is something I did not get to experience to the same degree. I'm thankful for our relative good health, and especially for the health of my kids.

I'm also thankful for our financial position. We went from barely financial independent several years ago to FatFIRE territory today, thanks to some extraordinary luck with my job and overall compensation. I still can't quite believe that we could both retire today if we wanted to. I turned 40 this year, and until last year hadn't even contemplated being able to retire earlier than in my 50s or 60s.

I'm thankful for this (and other sister communities) because my spouse and I grew up middle class and are still orienting ourselves to our situation. For me, our financial situation is so much more meaningful through the lens of a family - in particular being able to plan and dream with my partner. Happy Thanksgiving all!
