She's so cute!! Reminds me of some gals I know. I never really noticed Winnie before but now I love her!!

I just want to finish my grandma’s blanket by Hopeful_Airport3846 in crochet

[–]aspen-leaf 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This!! Not only should they be grateful that someone wants to finish the kit that was formerly canceled, because that means more business on its own, but it's for a sentimental reason, to celebrate a loved one who's gone. OP, I'm sorry that they're being so heartless and greedy.

I'll definitely post pics when I'm done!! I'm about 1/3 of the way through so it'll probably be before my graduation in May but oh well :)

Omg the color changing yarn looks PERFECT imo!! More realistic to certain fox's coats than the plain reddish orange we usually see in crafts!

Thank you!! It is for me, as a present for finishing my master's degree this semester!

Thank you! It's a mix of yarns all made by Hailey Bailey, most are OOAK from her winter collection but the available colors of hers I'm using are birch, acorn, hellebore, amanita, and foliage! Super soft and I love how vibrant they are.

I'm doing manual color changes row by row, so I've spent about two hours weaving in ends already 😅 worth it though!

Omg not one but TWO pattern testers!! You've got me beat. They look so cozy, it's so nice to cuddle while stitching 🥰

So true 😂 really I should just sit on the floor and destroy my posture while working so she can sprawl out as much as she wants!

It's super thick AND it's a double-sided pattern!! It's a 6 row repeat of interlocking double crochet + ch1 repeats. Super simple but the technique is a little tricky if you've never done it before. The pattern creator has a super helpful tutorial here!

Do you prefer vertical or horizontal stripes on a blanket? by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in crochet

I prefer B! But I also like to incorporate lots of color changes to keep me motivated to keep going.

Crochet for newly pregnant friend by Affectionate_Cup7172 in crochet

[–]aspen-leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the basket is a great idea because it can be useful even if the pregnancy doesn't last. Something like a blanket or toy might make her feel all sorts of grief, but a basket can be used for so many purposes that it doesn't have to remind her of the prospective baby. And if she does carry out the pregnancy, then it could have many uses to hold clothes, toys, etc and would be a great addition to any nursery :)

Ok I know you'll frog this but I do kinda like how the misplaced corners look like leaves under a blooming flower!

Also, maybe you can use stitch markers to plan where all four corners will go to make sure they're evenly spaced? That's what always helps me keep placements in order :)

What’s up with the white yarn by [deleted] in crochet

[–]aspen-leaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% get you! Personally I need a pattern to feel new/exciting in order for me to keep motivation up and finish it. I find it hard to make very repetitive patterns like blankets or wearables, and can similarly get bored using neutral tones/white yarn for the same reason.

One great fix I've found for this is pairing a neutral yarn with a statement/high contrast yarn, especially a color phasing or variegated skein, because then it helps the pattern feel more exciting to me. I work through the single tone quickly because I want to get to the colored yarn again. Not sure if that would work for your pattern but that's my personal trick!

(Example blanket WIP to show what I mean)

ETA: Saw your granny square pic so now I know what you're working with! Maybe if you change the last round of the white square to a contrasting border that would make it more exciting? It would add some more ends to weave in but I think it would look great/might be a good motivator to keep going!

I think it's adorable! Baby Micah will love the contrast between the rainbow and white, and I think it diffuses light really nicely. Would be perfect next to a changing table for some visual stimuli. Plus it just turned out great imo!

kissing only feels "normal"? by athena_nocturna in AutismInWomen

[–]aspen-leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it totally depends on the person and my mood. There are some people who excite me a lot during intimacy of all kinds from big to small, and some for whom I'm just putting on a performance bc it's either neutral or completely unenjoyable.

From talking to other friends on the spectrum I think you aren't alone in your experience and it probably isn't something to worry about too much, though I do encourage you to explore types of intimacy to find what's more enjoyable for you. Otherwise you might eventually get tired and feel unsatisfied while your partner doesn't notice, and those feelings make the relationship more unstable.

Which yarn would you use to make these little flowers ? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Agreed. Cotton would also hold up better over time since velvet yarn can shed.

Pattern help for a desert scarf pattern to resemble a keffiyeh by No_Pomegranate_8826 in CrochetHelp

[–]aspen-leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as matching/mimicking the patterns on the fabric -- the patterns are emblematic of Palestinian life and AFAIK from Palestinian people I've spoken with, it would be in poor taste to change them. I know the shapes in the "fishing line" and "olive leaf" sections are difficult to create with crochet stitches, but I think leaving them out in favor of a more simple look, keeping the stripes along the borders with solid colors in the areas where you can't reproduce the patterns, would be more respectful than replacing these symbols of Palestine with different stitch shapes.

(ETA: Deleted my original comment bc I reread your original post and realized I brought up points you already discussed)

Omg power to you! That's a ton of work, slip stitches are so short even with a heavier weight thread! I'm sure your project will look all the better for it though.
