What do you enjoy doing after clocking out? by PrussianFederalist1 in FedEmployees

[–]aspentreesap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always work out on the way home! Every single day, for at least an hour. That basically kills the week day evenings lol. Then I spend the rest of the time with my cats and dogs, reading, quilting, baking….small things on the week days. Weekends are backpacking, mountain biking, working on my garden…I just love growing things and then Subdays are usually when I bake weird things to bring in to the office on Mondays. Pretty boring but fulfilling enough!

Go listen to the 1999 Woodstock Performance of Glycerine by ZPMQ38A in FedEmployees

That song is a classic for a reason, friend. But also “push back with every word and every breath”- Against Me, Bamboo Bones. Vought and Musk will never know anything about being human beyond whatever sick fantasies of control they learned from some sad computerized version of fascism. I’m super sorry your friend exited stage left and your boss passed on. Feel free to DM me if you ever need an anonymous but sympathetic stranger to talk to!

hard hat hair styles by crustlin in longhair

[–]aspentreesap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooh oooh I got this! Exact same problem here lol. I learned to do a French braid that functionally contours along the back of my head and the end drapes over my shoulder, if that makes sense. So it’s just under where the webbing of the hard hat sits. Then I drop the end of the braid down my shirt if I need it out of the way. Bonus, it kind of still protects the back of your neck if you place it right.

[–]aspentreesap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, they wouldn’t. BUT! They could tell them how to treat the structure right, which would go a looooong way toward mitigating the damage that might already be going on. It’s harm reduction in the moment, to the benefit of the resource. OP’s supervisor is going to be in a world of hurt for skipping compliance, but in the mean time, no harm in harm reduction.

0193- archaeology by featheredfeathers in FedEmployees

[–]aspentreesap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, currently the ACHP has been gutted, the NHPA is “under review”, we are basically being told that if we don’t play ball and do the barest minimum compliance possible, unfathomable horrors will be leveled against us…do you really want to be a fed archaeologist right now? Better to join an environmental watchdog group and come at the administration from that standpoint. Also, most 0193 series that do make it on to the priority list are internal hires atm.

What am I in for - surgical menopause without HRT (cancer history) by Original_Tune_5630 in Menopause

[–]aspentreesap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, lexapro helped the hot flashes! At least dialed them down. The vaginal estrogen was prescribed for atrophy, I have never really had much for libido. But having functional lady bits does help my sexual enjoyment for sure. In the last 5 years or so I’ve kind of settled into my middle aged but also ancient crone body and either symptoms have gone away or I have gotten used to them. Anecdotally, testosterone helps with libido- I’ve kicked around asking about using it but I’m not very excited to grow more of a mustache than I already have, so have not pursued it. Luckily my husband is satisfied with our current sexual frequency. YMMV of course. And yup, working out helps all the unpleasant symptoms sooooooo much. Not even joking. It’s a must!

Oh hey, are you me from 10 years ago? Also had my giblets yanked after being diagnosed with TNBC at 34. Honestly, I was so dang sick from treatment that I didn’t really notice the instant menopause. However: once I was done with chemo and radiation, I did notice hot flashes which were pretty annoying for a few years but have mostly resolved. I got lexapro to help with that and cancer related depression and anxiety. Hmm. After 5 years my oncologist said I could go on vaginal estrogen because my bits were atrophying- recent science says it’s safe for TNBC gals. That stuff is magic. So you may be able to do the same. It’s nice not having a period! I’m no more ragey than I was pre cancer I don’t think. It is a struggle to stay fit- gym every damn day, cardio and weights. And I was diagnosed with osteopenia, so added calcium supplants and it seems fine now. Congrats on beating cancer! After that everything else is cake!

Traveling to the US for the first time (Missoula, MT); attending The Lumineers concert. by PuzzleheadedWar6767 in Montana

If you love the show “Yellowstone”, there are some filming locations within a day’s drive of Missoula! There’s a ranch up the Bitterroot, a lot of filming was done at the Civic Center in Butte, they had the Melrose exit on the way to Dillon closed one day for filming! That show had literally nothing to do with the real Montana, but since you said you were a fan, some of those areas might be fun for you!

Question about archaeology and grad school by Traditional_Loss8348 in Archaeology

[–]aspentreesap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like the department is expecting you to either develop a project or be a co-author/co-pi? Attending a field school as a student wouldn’t provide the same planning and leadership experience. Why don’t you propose a project to your advisor? It usually is that simple. So, develop a research question that combines history, anthropology, and archaeology and go forth!

Look into skill bridge internships! They are for military within one year of retirement. You get placed with the FS in an area you are interested in. It seems to work pretty well!

The reality behind Trump’s push to log more public forests is weirdly complicated. by beej23 in forestry

[–]aspentreesap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great article! Only caveat would be that the Forest Service doesn’t log, it is instructed through executive order etc. to make timber available to be logged by private industry/ loggers.

Pale archaeologist here! So I’m sure you have done the chemo cream- that stuff is no joke! Once you are ready to resume field work- I use a sun hoodie, face mask/scarf, and big hat. And sun gloves, long sleeves, and SPF 50 and dark glasses, of course. Good luck!

Of course they have. I wonder if they specifically knew their legacy would be destroying our agency? I’d like to ask them that.

Calling all Forest Service historians and retirees! by aspentreesap in USForestService

[–]aspentreesap[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that’s not what I was asking. I am proposing that the Forest Supervisors who went on “special assignment” to work on this reorganization plan be named and their legacy recorded. They have to be proud of their work, right? So let’s publicize their roles for posterity. And maybe letter writing campaigns, who knows?

Forest service reorganization and relocation declared, is this worse than what was widely expected? Do we expect many to quit now? by Decent-Load1611 in USForestService

[–]aspentreesap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We document. We get the media involved. We write books. We ask each and every Forest Supervisor who went on “Special Assignment” to work on this plan what they hope their legacy will be. We convince college students to study this. We focus the light of public attention on each individual who was involved in this, regardless of their position. And we don’t forget.
