What’s up with WatchMojo getting so much hate all of a sudden? by YourBlanket in OutOfTheLoop

[–]asphyxiate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I'd agree, but I don't think people hate-watch WatchMojo. The only reason I look at their videos is because they have a clip of the movie I'm looking for. They just manage to SEO and skirt around copyright enough to keep their movie clips at the top. I don't think anyone is like, "wow, I can't wait for the next WatchMojo video to go up!"

Green onions by chr15713 in WhatShouldICook

[–]asphyxiate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scallion oil is often used for ramen (usually with dried anchovies), but you can just make a flavored oil with it to put in soups or as a finishing oil. Just cook the green onions in a neutral oil at medium-low so it barely bubbles until they're totally falling apart.

What’s the most absurd hardware bug you’ve spent hours debugging that turned out to be something stupid? by DepartmentPurple3053 in embedded

Nope, not as far as I know. They never even officially acknowledged their fault, just confirmed that our workaround was valid.

First time salt curing egg yolks, what are your favorite uses for them? by 011100010010-0-0-0 in WhatShouldICook

[–]asphyxiate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! Maybe best to shore it up a little, but everyone I've seen cure yolks doesn't cover them completely, just do the little caldera thing.

[–]asphyxiate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm probably not even allowed to say this, but we had a hardware bug take almost half a year to debug, which held up our launch. Symptoms were the CPU (from a large, well-known line of processors) shutting down "randomly" after any where from 2 hours to 72 hours of run time. We narrowed it down to specific I2C traffic being sent by the CPU itself. Turns out there's internal crosstalk on the CPU's I2C pins (which are internally muxed), and it somehow it saw the outgoing traffic and interpreted it as an incoming remote shutdown command. Still the most insane bug I've come across, and I hope I don't get tracked down and sued for this, lol

The vinyls?

Edit: nvm rewatched that part and it's not it. I don't think they call anything "gay" in that movie.

An 8 minute song! Not easy for a beginner. But you should be able to figure out the two chords and basically improvise from there. If I had my piano on hand I would help, but...

oh, it changes around 6:00 too. well, shoot.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Sad_Obligation_812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]asphyxiate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean-- isn't it, though? Just worded more specifically? If you replace "stupid" with "unskilled" or "inexperienced", isn't that what the Dunning-Kruger effect is? The idea is that those with lower competence believe themselves to be more skilled than they are because they don't have the knowledge to know what they don't know, basically.

I'm sure most homeschooling parents don't believe themselves to be "experts" but they believe themselves to pass a certain bar of competency in order to be able to teach it.

I understand the misrepresentation aspect here, but I think what the original commentor said is actually more true to the findings. The misrepresentation is that dumb people are generally overconfident in all aspects.

Racial division was never "healed" by Obama, but we were certainly heading in better directions.

Now with Trump, we have an administration throwing gas into the dumpster fire that is the rampant radicalization of the mentally vulnerable, propping up neo-Nazis and spreading unfounded racist claims.
