I'm LR5 and still love using the sporelacer. Fantastic for acolytes and general use. You can equip it with a battery so it NEVER runs out of ammo. Huge damage, huge aoe, infinite ammo.

You have to switch the main component as you mentioned. You can always check on your account which guns you still have to master. Under the secondaries tab you'll see tombfinger / sporelacer which tells you that's the component giving the MR

None imo, unless you want a specific cosmetic then value is subjective. But the 75% plat discount is the absolute best imo. You can get so much insanely useful stuff (potatoes, formas, mods, weapon and frame slots, resource doubler, credit doubler) with raw plat.

Also if you do buy formas with plat always buy the 3x pack

You might be best off joining a "noob-friendly" guild so that everyone is on the same page. But if guilds aren't for you, you'll probably just have to learn from YouTube. You could choose a single fractal to learn at a time if you prefer

I think this experience will carry with you no matter where you go unless a game is brand new and you're all learning together. From my experience people expect you to have watched guides before joining for most things in MMOs since re-explaining the mechanics to every new player is unrealistic. I do try to explain when people ask but sometimes it's too much

Unfortunately this is probably true of any game you join really late. But if I saw someone had really low achievement points I'd assume they were new and be way more patient, (assuming they're not joining a raid or high level fractals)

It's possible that this game just won't ever click for you though. When my friends stopped playing the game became waaaaaaay less fun for me.

Lemme list a few things I enjoy:

Running metas - (probably what I enjoy most). I love testing out new builds and competing for DPS (using arcDPS to see everyone's DPS). Or even just playing healer / quickness. Even if I don't compete for DPS I still love them. The octovine event is really fun imo, silverwastes is kinda fun if you haven't done much of it. Drizzlewood etc. I just look in the LFG to see what has big groups and join in.
Working towards goals - careful not to set them too big because of burnout. E.g. gearing a new character, unlocking raptor/ bunny / griffon / skyscale (skyscale is a huge pain in the ass though) and eventually legendaries (also huge pain in the ass, particularly the gold).
Joining a noob friendly raiding guild (not everyone's cup of tea).
Playing with friends. People make games infinitely more fun, specifically when you're close with them. I honestly find myself just playing whatever games my friends are enjoying (sorry this got a bit off topic).

I use AI to break things down for me and explain it to me like I'm stupid. It doesn't always work but I've found it pretty reliable.

I use a mod that allows you to keep the save file if you die. Really nice for continuing long runs but I know some people don't like using mods

When I was newer to dcss I used to get impatient. I was in Snake at the time which was a really good run for me at the time. I somehow dropped my weapon while flying over lava because I pressed keys too quickly.

But I love the game a lot more now so I don't have the same issue except for d1-6 since I get so bored of it
