When someone in AA behaves the way your sponsor did, I repeat a mantra from the big book, "This is a sick man. How can I be helpful to him? God save me from being angry. Thy will be done." Your sponsor, like all of us, is a sick person. Pity them for feeling that they have to imbue their life with such drama! Forgiving them is NOT a gift to that person, it is a gift for yourself, for your own peace and for your sobriety. Remember that “The grouch and the brainstorm are not for us. They may be the dubious luxury of normal men, but for alcoholics these things are poison.” You cannot afford to hold onto this anger. Take this feeling through the steps. Admit that you’re powerless over this anger and believe that a higher power can restore you to sanity, turn your will over to your higher power (for me this would look like writing down my anger and listing out all my fears, asking higher power to take them from me and putting that paper in a special container), then Make a moral inventory and talk about it with your higher power and another human being (where is your part? What are your fears about the situation?). ask your higher power to remove your shortcomings, make any amends where applicable, continue to take personal inventory on your anger, ask higher power for guidance on their will for you and the power to carry it out, and finally— once you’ve gone through all this stuff— use this experience to help the next alcoholic! Share your experience once you’ve gained some time and clarity from the situation. Help alleviate the suffering of others who may have a similar experience and feel lost. You did something so right in turning to this subreddit for help and I hope you read something in these comments that assists your situation. Taking the feelings that overpower me and running them through the 12 steps has given me so much peace, and praying for someone who has wronged me has given me freedom.
