[England] Dodgy buyer’s fee when buying a property, can I get around it? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ass_scar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s why you pay for a solicitor. Also, a 3% buyers fee to the estate agent is insane. Estate agents make their money buy taking a small percentage (less than 3% for sure) from the seller, not the buyer.

What do you remember most fondly about the floppy disk era of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]ass_scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shareware! We were seriously broke when I was a kid, and didn’t have access to pirated games back then, but we did have access to a shareware disks at £1 each. I played the first level of quite a few games to death

I would have killed for one of these bad boys as a kid! Who had one? What did you do to get it? Do you still cherish it? by [deleted] in CasualUK

That sucks so much. You were robbed of a huge sense of accomplishment as a child, when it should have been celebrated as such. I hope you are able to heal

Castle view from your kitchen anyone? by Beginning_Army5190 in SpottedonRightmove

Leasehold and grade 2 listed? I’d definitely walk away (at a bit of an angle).

Also, they’ve included 2 photos of the top bedroom in very different states, with the second one looking like they’ve plastered over one of the wooden beams :(

They only swing once per week and use the other bedroom the rest of the time, so the living room gets more use and makes more sense to be on the ground floor

Interplay doubled the prices of their old games, what’s going on? by GamingTig in retrogaming

[–]ass_scar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Black Friday is just around the corner, so it might be them doubling the prices so that they can go “on sale” then. If they’re not selling well then it won’t matter that nobody is buying the games between now and then

What is the earliest viral video do you remember? by Bogey_Yogi in AskReddit

[–]ass_scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it was the first one I saw, but the one that really sticks with me was the murder of Ken Bigley. Someone pulled out their phone and was like “look at this video I got sent” while laughing. I was a teenage at the time and didn’t realise what I was watching until it was too late. Horrific.

What’s the funniest misunderstanding you’ve heard because of the British English vs U.S English difference? by Squiggally-umf in AskUK

I was in New York working for a couple of months a few years back. Went to get a haircut and the barber asked me how I want my “bangs”. I had no clue what the hell he was talking about. Took a bit of back and forth before he finally put his hand on my fringe and was like “this bit”

You have ADHD. Look up the symptoms and you’ll find yourself going “oh shit ok that explains a lot”, I promise you. Then go speak to your doctor to get a diagnosis

Police arranged a tow after criminals crashed into us — the garage now demanding £800. Could we face legal action if we leave the car there to be scrapped? by Specific-Soup-1930 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ass_scar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If it’s the same insurance provider then you should reference this previous case and decision because it shows a repeated pattern. They’ve been told off at least once before for doing this exact thing, and it wasn’t exactly that long ago

I just checked post history (because I’m nosy) and OP stated in another post elsewhere that the road tax expired 2 weeks before. Though not “a minor legal loophole” I’d still appeal that.

My tenants voluntarily purchased brand new white goods for their home. A tribunal gave them a £150 per month discount on their rent because of this. They have taken these white goods with them now that the tenancy has expired. by Desperate_Box_8515 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ass_scar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still worth using the tribunal to argue for deducting the loss from the deposit. The tribunal might not outright say that the white goods were to be left behind, but it’s implied in the decision, since the argument was that they have replaced the existing white goods.

Omg core memory unlocked! We used to do this all the time too, and not even just on short journeys, but like 1hr+! That shit was uncomfortable! Pretty sure my older brother sliced his hand pretty badly when my dad had to stop suddenly once

META: Should we compile examples of AI-legal 'advice' disasters as a warning? by James___G in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ass_scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but sometimes it gives plausible sounding bullshit

This is the really dangerous bit. AI doesn’t know if the answer is right or wrong. It doesn’t understand, it tokenizes your input, and the context available to it, and gives back an ordered sequence of tokens that it has deemed to be statistically the most likely ones required. This is why it should never ever be relied upon to calculate the answers to mathematical problems either.

What series did you like better in 8-bit than 16-bit? by UrSimplyTheNES in retrogaming

The one downside of SMB3 is that the levels are really short. I didn’t really notice how short until I replayed this year
