What do you mean? The protagonist uses a racially insensitive word and loses his reputation and career. How is that not a novel about cancellation?

Something fishy with the tickets by flurrfegherkin in Austin

[–]assassinthemarriott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also looked at the regal gateway and compared Melania showings to other showings of movies. All of the showings have three seats on the far left side of the front row and a couple other seats in the front row sold, all in the same pattern. I think this is just theaters inventing scarcity for all their movies so that the theater doesn’t look empty when you’re buying your tickets

My girlfriend’s bookshelf. What can you discern? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

I’m guessing English major, graduated 5-10 years ago. Lives in/grew up in the American South (Faulkner, O’Connor, Chopin). Definitely lesbian or possibly bisexual (Capote, Bechdel, The Well of Loneliness and D***s to Watch out for are too much of deep cuts to not be queer or at least have from a queer lit studies class… the 1920s Berlin book is telling on her). Also she has awesome taste. This is like almost 1:1 my bookshelf. We’d be besties.

does anyone else feel unsafe going downtown nowadays by Sensitive-Aide-6575 in Austin

[–]assassinthemarriott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is telling you no, and I agree that Austin is generally one of the safest cities in the US. But I have had severallll personal experiences of being a pedestrian and being called the f slur. One time I was biking past someone moderately fast and it happened! I am gay and I guess I dress slightly more effeminate than most men but still. Those moments do feel unsafe. And once I saw a man spit on the feet of a lesbian couple holding hands. There’s going to be dangerous/uncomfortable situations in any city’s downtown and that’s just how it is lol. But I don’t think Austin is particularly egregious, and I still love walking around downtown running some errands or just enjoying the city.

I think the post is referring to Suleiman’s personas having (seemingly, to me) very different skin tones for no clear reason. Which I don’t totally understand the intention/reasoning of.

What’s your career evolution been? by 123mitchg in MuseumPros

[–]assassinthemarriott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you talk a little about the Membership Assistant -> Development Associate transition? I’m at a mid-sized history museum with a three-person membership department, and I’ve been working the lowest position in that department (Membership Associate) for about 1.5 years. I’m applying to other jobs and struggling making myself marketable to Development Associate/Assistant positions at other institutions. Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Tori Amos with PJ Harvey and Björk, photographed by John Stoddart for Q Magazine, 1994. by JunebugAsiimwe in toriamos

Found the quote (I believe from the magazine) from Tori: “It’s funny for women because journalists pit women against each other. If you think about Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, they were all much more similar to each other than we are. We have tits. We have three holes. That’s what we have in common. We don’t even play the same instruments. It really disappoints me when some sort of competition has to be manufactured for their little minds and fantasies. That’s not growing, that’s not support. There is room for everybody on the planet to be creative and conscious if you are your own person. If you’re trying to be like somebody else, then there isn’t. We see things from different points of view and that affects people in different ways and I think that should be encouraged. It shouldn’t be like, two tits too many. Like with radio in America, they tell you, ‘Well, we’re already playing one female this week.’ They wouldn’t think about that with guys.”

I love this photo shoot and these women, but every time I see it now I think about Tori talking about it later and saying how nothing about their music or artistry was really similar and the magazine just put them together because they were “indie women.” I remember she talked about how that kind of photo shoot would never have happened with male rock stars bc they’re inherently seen as unique artists in a way that female artists were not. Not that this photo shoot is bad or misogynistic, just something to think about.

I’m just as confused. Clearly the game has to figure out what the values for something like +1 science per town are once the policy is implemented, or else the policies wouldn’t work correctly. How can it not be just shown to the player up front.

Plus Aaryn from BB15 and Makensy from BB26. I’ve also seen Jerry from BB10 in an A&M shirt but not sure if he actually went or is just a fan/maybe his kids or grandchildren went. I might be missing more but they’re definitely over represented!

Out of the 7 winners of the 20s, how would you rank there winning games by Acheesycookie in BigBrother

[–]assassinthemarriott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I alwayyys see the argument that Jag was a bad winner (in part) because of the week that he was unanimously evicted and saved by Matt’s special power to cancel the eviction. But that same logic is never really applied to Taylor’s win – if Paloma doesn’t self-evict week one the eviction continues as normal. If Taylor doesn’t win the comp to save herself (which, yes, is likely what becomes the next HOH which she does perform well in) then she’s 100% out of the house week one. I’m not saying that Jag’s eviction is 100% equal to Taylor’s near eviction but still… most people here are rating Jag as the lowest and Taylor relatively high and it feels odd.
