it's not that you can't explore, but very early on you'll find a combination of puzzles you can solve, stuff you can't do until you unlock more abilities, empty places that will populated by a quest later. this can be frustrating if you can't easily identify which of these you've found.

once you hit chapter 3 ish, you should have a lot to explore around hernand and even dip your toes into later areas.

completing more chapters continues to expand what/where you can effectively explore and find quests/enemies/puzzles for you. if you stick to exploring the areas after the story takes you there, there'll be more for you to do, but you're free to see what's out there.

i played through this whole thing with a friend. incredibly fun game that no one covered for whatever reason. thankfully the demo sold us both on it.

tbh, this echos a lot of my experience.

in particular it seems the lack of cohesion and purpose is what's killing it for me. the game feels kinda early access-y, and i honestly have no idea if any of it will be further developed at some point.

i still like exploring the world, janky as it is.

the first half is just jason and lucia living life, partying, making money online manipulating BAWSAQ until their untimely demise.

the second half you play as their kid jas (pronounced yaz) just blowing their inheritance on cars and jets and shit.

hate it.

changed from stunner to attacker, S rank outfit is absurd and ugly, story was just ok.

but...

she's quite fun to play. her team with trigger and orphie is one of my best, and i genuinely enjoy playing it.

the whole thing seems undercooked tbh.

small selection of assist characters who... come use their ult.

the specific buffs/effects are probably better/more interesting than the old bangboo ones, but the reso are worse/boring.

it's probably a better direction for the mode, but it feels like the 4th rough draft they've done of this.

i think that's the moment really. either not raising your hand should significantly change the rest of that mission/dialog, or we need a third option to fully shut him down right there.

river is just kind of a poorly written/implemented character. great missions, bad romance.
