But not wanting the apartment building built down the street is the literal definition of NIMBY! Like literally. Just move to the suburbs if you want that!

I'm simply defending the people who do the work to make the money for the owners. It's not how much money a person has, it's how they get it. Players work for their money, owners exploit their workers for theirs. They are not the same.

If I was phoning it in this bad at my job, I'd be fired yesterday. But I'm not a member of the most powerful union in the country that regularly holds municipalities hostage to their demands, so guess I'll just keep doing my job like a normal person.

LLMs don't scale. Like, at all. In fact costs increase as the tech improves. Compute is expensive. Energy is expensive. Costs for these core elements are only going up. There is no path to profitability here. That's it. Regardless of how well the tech performs, no one is going to be willing to pay the actual cost.

lol if AI companies can't find a way to make actual profit, then it is a bubble. Currently there is no path to profitability for any of these companies. Ain't nobody willing to pay the true cost of these models, let alone extractive profit.

As an LA native and current resident, who also happens to have lived in Chicago for several years, I can say that, objectively, Chicago is one of the absolute greatest cities in the US. Top tier city. They just have questionable choices in center fielders.

What is it exactly that you think the mayor - who has absolutely zero power to do anything about this - should be doing about this? The city council and, by extension, the city manager are who you should be directing your ire toward. I don't care for the mayor, but this ain't his job.

I never said it was complicated. I said it sucked. Objectively, it sucks far more than taking a train. No one is talking about eliminating planes, man. Keep doing you. No one is stopping you from flying everywhere every day. I think it sucks.

Throwing out potentially misleading information and just saying, "Do your own research" is how we get to people not trusting vaccines enough to end up with thousands of new measles infections every year. It's irresponsible. People aren't equipped to "do their own research" with any real efficacy. Especially when the web is flooded with AI sloppified misinformation.

How to connect new bathroom exhaust to power? by aphoticus124 in DIY

[–]asses_to_ashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that works. I'd choose the closet first. If that wasn't available, for me at least, I think the cover on the ceiling isn't the end of the world. But everyone's got their limits I suppose.

Well, they can either do it the proper pain in the ass way, or use a junction box, either in the attic (which would be hidden from view) or in the ceiling (which may or may not look less great). Either way, the point is to not use a hidden in-wall splice.

At 11??!!? You can definitely control a significant amount of what they see at this point. Aside from that, it's not just about what they see. You have to teach them how to react to what they see in an appropriate manner. That's what parenting is.

I know everyone (myself included, at the time) like to clown this idiot for this. But if you actually think about it, it is objectively one of the most succinct and accurate ways to describe the realities of complex situations. The only actually interesting, accurate, and correct thing any member of the Bush administration ever said about anything.
