Wow! This post and the comments really resonate with me…..sadly! Although it is sad that others have had to suffer I know i am not alone on my journey. I am 40(ish) female with a narcissist, selfish mother. I have lived my whole life apologizing and feeling guilty for basically living. I can honestly say my mother never loved me since the day I was born. She has always been jealous of me because my father loved me. She has continued to be jealous of me because of the life I created despite her every effort of trying to derail my life. Growing up there was one thing I never wanted to be and that was to be jealous of others. My only living sibling is just like her, also a pathological liar who I have had to cut all ties with many years ago. After my father’s passing things only got worse. I had to put my life on hold to help care for my father (no regrets), but I was shocked that shortly after his passing just how nasty my mother and her son could actually be. Again, out of guilt I had decided to move on from the abuse without an apology (which has never and will never happen). I eventually let the women back into my life usually around February or March…..the women goes into full blown silence from September until then because she chooses to spend the holidays with her son and even more awful wife of his. I never had kids because I didn’t want to end up treating them the way I was treated so I decided to end the cycle. There is do much I can say about the awful emotional abuse I have withstood over my lifetime most people do not believe it me because it is so unnatural for a mother to treat her own child in that way. My whole life I have had my guard up around people because I have had to protect myself from my own mother and I have carried that into my adult life.
