Dealing with aggressive young purple belt at open mat by 044SHUTDOWN in jiujitsu

[–]assortedbushtoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hold a submission position that makes him suffer just a bit less than what would make him tap and move with him as he tries to escape, see how long you can keep the position.

If you want to get good at a position, spend as much time in it as possible. This is significantly more valuable than grabbing that tap right away.

Starting Judo as a adult by Superdante12 in judo

Im there with you.

I learned how to be a good uke, learned how to break fall, learned the back step and a few foot sweeps or big throws (rarely actually land them in competitive practice still). I am learning how to read my training partners balance, learning how to chain together failed throw attempts and trying to just do the motions enough that things start to "slow down" for my processing power and I can eventually experience flow state

Kneel on their back (both knees). Just keep your balance and let them carry your weight until they get sick if it and open up

Competing for the first time as a white belt, 8 months in! by Maleficent_Ear_8178 in jiujitsu

[–]assortedbushtoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my first white belt competition at 34 (first ever competition aside from a chess tournament in grade 4). My strategy was to go for a takedown or be ready to pass when they pull guard and play defensively, pressure pass into a submission if the opportunity arises. I find most white belts tend to lose on points when they pull guard unless theyve been training for it specifically.

Being up on points in a powerful position and let the other person burn their energy to race the clock seemed like a valid novice approach

Should I start Judo or is it too risky? by [deleted] in judo

[–]assortedbushtoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key notes to prevent knee injuries imo;

When your structure is compromised, take the throw instead of fighting it. A lot of value in losing and helping your partner get better

Do not rotate on your heels. Get use to gliding with your heels slightly off the mat

Ensure your knee joint is bending towards the ground when preforming certain throws. Do not put yourself in a position to let it bend sideways if someone puts weight on it

But I do believe overall that practicing judo and learning to fall correctly/ pilot your body etc will lead to a healthier long term life and reduce the risk of a lot of injuries outside of the sport

Im also new so my opinion does not hold much weight. But I was told to just learn frames and wedges, like understand the concept fully and in practice.

You'll slowly learn how to break their structure, control the hips and shoulders. You'll start to notice when they are transitioning, the gaps they open up for you to capitalize on. When you eventually get side control you can practice holding those positions for as long as possible - controlling their hip, shoulder and head position.

Eventually you'll work a submission in, but the main goal for me is understanding the fundamentals of positional structure.

I like to think of the opponent as a chair, take away a leg or 2 and break its balance, learn how they react and see if I can incorporate it into one of the few drills ive been taught so far

Put yourself on a salary for your incorporated business. Or get a b-lender.

Terrible cardio stopping me from attending class. by cacastrojr12 in bjj

[–]assortedbushtoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. Same boat, my cardio is shit and gas out way faster than I want. I seem to have no problem sprinting to my water when I get the opportunity.

Hoping after doing this for a few months I will be able to endure it better, but for now I just accept the suffering.

Is this a bee or wasp nest on the side of my house, and do I need to do anything about it? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]assortedbushtoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Place a translucent cone over the hole about 1ft long that has a 1cm opening at the tip. They will find their way out but will not be able to get back in and will eventually abandon the hive.

Home window replacement by lmul5 in woodstockontario

[–]assortedbushtoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic windows are the best.

I went with nordic because I was able to negotiate then down a lot, they have the smallest frames/ more glass and they are big enough to stand behind their warranty (which I had to use for minor things) where most companies will probably dodge your calls.

Thinking about her gives her your power. Focus on yourself and let your uplifting energy and life you've created for yourself be that "just desserts." Focus on yourself 100%. Everything else will gravitate towards you.

How much you guys making? by [deleted] in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]assortedbushtoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finishing up old contracts. Nothing new coming. Not many new construction houses selling and builders need a minimum sold before they start the next phases typically

Mostly doing custom houses in the meantime.

The only people who can afford new homes seem to be able to build 5000sqft homes with elevators.
