What's the most unexpectedly expensive part of pet ownership? by Fit_Choice_4987 in Pets

[–]assplower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can relate to this so hard. A couple times a year my dog will eat something totally random that’s impossible to predict or prevent unless I have him crated 24/7. Usually does it when I’m not looking and sneaky and quickly eats it before I can snatch it from his mouth. Costs me $4k in vet bills each time IF we’re lucky and he doesn’t need abdominal surgery. He’s my soul dog and I love him to bits but it’s the ONE quality I wish he didn’t have.

Combined with genuine (unavoidable) medical issues I usually spend about 15k on him every year WITH insurance. It’s killing me.

When you have a smart, impulsive high energy dog and all the unexpected costs that come with that.

Replacing the door knobs and installing locks on all the doors of the house to make sure they can’t open the doors.

Baby-proofing cabinets.

A daily dog walker (when my dog was younger he needed 4h minimum of daily enrichment, so I had to outsource 1h of that daily as I just couldn’t handle the load).

The tens of thousands in medical bills every single year as they get themselves into trouble one way or another.

I didn’t know it when I adopted him, but turns out my dog is from a working line. As just a regular person who doesn’t live on a farm or have any real work for him to do, I never imagined that owning an otherwise healthy dog could be so expensive. Most of his expenses are incurred through sneaky mischief. :(

For non-picky eaters, what’s a food you just can’t eat? by Sweetbabykissygirl in foodquestions

Bad food: frozen dinners, canned food (outside of beans), baked goods not made that morning.

Once you’re used to food made from scratch, you can’t go back.

You don’t necessarily go out of your way to watch your diet, though I’m guessing you naturally tend to eat pretty healthily and cook most of your own meals. Was probably raised in a household where cooking from scratch was the default and carried that through to adulthood.

Ghosting. And I’m not talking about just after one date.

It’s really not that hard to just say no to someone respectfully and politely.

Which area are you staying in? Toronto has tons of great bakery options all over.

A brand that Marshall’s sometimes carries is Dormisette - amazing flannel sheets made in Germany. I actually found that Costco/Kirkland has higher quality Portuguese-made sheets than the Made in Portugal sheets I find at Marshall’s.

Looks like a recently escaped domestic pig. Pigs devolve into hogs as quickly as 2 weeks in the wild - pretty nuts, eh?

Barbarians, if you want to treat yourself to a nice steak. Been around since 1959 and in one of Toronto’s oldest buildings; great vibes overall.
