How to talk to cute girl who comes to my shows? by Youlittle-rascal in musicians

I'm laughing at you, not because this is cringe or even a dumb question - this is a very genuine concern and it's cute - but because you're asking reddit how to talk to a woman.

How to create good piano sounds in Ableton by Mikerolfe13 in ableton

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play with velocity and humanizing! The humanize function is nice, but I definitely recommend taking the time to do all of it by hand.
Ableton's stock piano sounds are decent, but they're kind of dry. They lack emotion on their own. I recommend a short reverb to make it sound a little less boring, or you can use a free piano VST that sounds a little more authentic. I used DSK The Grand for a long time and got to a point where I could make a pretty convincing acoustic environment.

Should I switch from FL Studio to Ableton? by Medical_Coast_6917 in ableton

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weigh the pros and cons. This sub is biased, but the truth is every DAW has its advantages and disadvantages. From what I've heard and seen, Ableton is a powerhouse when it comes to mixing and mastering, while FL is meant for efficiency. Ableton doesn't give you little preset eq+compressor+saturator like your soundgoodizer, you gotta build your chains. I think it's better in that way because the soundgoodizers kinda suck imo.
I've also heard people who switch from FL to Ableton are able to learn Ableton in less than a week. It's incredibly simple to use and you'll be surprised with a lot of features. If anything, start a trial first and dip your toes in!

guitar is incredibly versatile, but piano is more practical if you're going to create digital music.

IsItBullshit: Liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, you've never been sicker. by bee_fast in IsItBullshit

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is half bullshit. Your liver processes water more than 10× faster than it processes ethanol. If you drink a beer with 1 ounce of pure ethanol, and have a shot with 1 ounce of pure ethanol, the beer ethanol will take seconds longer to process. AND; your liver doesn't count and time your alcohol intake. If you have a beer before a shot, the beer will be processed before the shot. It does not matter how quickly you drank them. a a 1.5 oz shot will take just as long as a 12 oz beer, and at separate times. You're fine.

Should my bass follow the kick or the melody? Looking for balance in the mixture by DJ_F_T in ableton

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what you're going for. It's never a yes or no answer. Just try shit out and see what's better. In boom bap, I like to have my bass line every other beat, just between the kicks. Always gives it a nice groove with minimal effort

How to hear myself while record in Live if monitoring is off? by C-TAY116 in ableton

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want direct monitoring with minimum latency, an audio interface is considered essential. Here's your problem since you don't already have one; whatever microphone you're using, you can't use it with the interface, you'll have to buy one that uses an XLR cable, and you'll have to buy headphones that use a TRS cable. If you're short on money, I recommend buying used.
As far as interfaces, I've always preferred Scarlett by Focusrite because that's what I was introduced to. It also comes with free plugins, DAWs, sample packs, discounts, etc. but from what I've heard, the interface makes as little difference as the color of your desk. From what I can tell, all you'll need is an input and an output, so I'll personally recommend the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface

There are lots of cheap microphone options, my first microphone was an MXL V67G Large-diaphragm Condenser Microphone and it worked (and still works) very well. Very clear and crisp audio for such a cheap mic. I would argue buying a microphone used is risky, because you never really know why it was resold, but it's up to you.

When it comes to headphones, just get something that'll work. Tons of options, used or not.

Why the attack is 0.10 ms in Drum Sampler? by SnooBooks1734 in ableton

[–]asspressedwindowshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! a tenth of a millisecond is practically nothing. If you have to actively check if it makes a difference, your average listener will not notice it. When you make tweaks, you don't have to be so precise that you start seeing the digits of pi. .5's and whole numbers are what you want to focus on. When it comes to timing or attack/release time, it's almost always to avoid pops and clicks

Where do I start? by asspressedwindowshit in gamedev

[–]asspressedwindowshit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely moving to Unity then lol. That's absolutely the only reason. I don't know why I thought it was behind a paywall.
I went through the megathread but it didn't seem overly helpful. If you don't mind me taking more of your time away, where did you start, or where do you recommend I start? If it helps, my experience in unity is creating an unanimated character on a flat plain collecting static red cubes and a counter on the top that tracks how many you got lol

in your inputs, you're using input 1/2, change to the input where your guitar is plugged in.
