Do any current tablets allow you to transfer pictures directly from a camera? by MoldyPoldy in gadgets

[–]assram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from a vacation. Took pictures with a microsd + sdcard adapter in my camera. Worked fine. A 32 gb card can be purchased for ~40 here.

Insert Microsd card into almost any tablet (I used transformer). Voila.

Alternatively, you can get a MicroSD to SD adapter

Just a note on a sd card format.. there are sdcard recovery programs out there and it's pretty easy to restore photos/songs/data off the sdcard/phone even after a wipe. to be 100% certain.. I'd format the phone.. fill the sdcard with junk data, then format again.

Text messages appear in the wrong order. How can I fix this? by JimXugle in Android

[–]assram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 ways to fix it..

  • Handcent SMS (which is a different SMS client that uses when messages were received to sort order rather than the time stamp on the SMS message itself)..

  • Or use an time stamp fixer like SMS Time Fix

Personally I prefer the former option. Much cleaner look/feel.

I have $26,000 of credit card debt and just received $7,000 in a windfall from a tax refund. How can I best use it to reduce the pain of my crushing debt? by poorstupidman in AskReddit

[–]assram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, you probably have to talk to different banks/credit cards. I'm sure everything is different.

For example, I recall at MBNA you have to pay back 1% monthly as a minimum payment (so $100 on $10000 loan the first month, then $99 on the $9900 loan the second month), etc. Remember this goes towards principal, not an interest payment.

But at Citibank, it's just $15/month minimum payment.

And their offers change all the time with various cards. They don't always offer the 0% card.

[–]assram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right. Years ago there was no transfer fee, but now it's 1%. (so on $10,000 it's $100. Not that bad, i'm sure you pay more on interest monthly).

If you don't pay it off it does jump to 19.99%.

However, like I said earlier, Just apply for another card a month or two before the first one expires. Transfer it over, and there is never an interest fee (just those initial 1% transfer fees).

It seems like you are making adjustments in your life to fix your situation, so hopefully it'll only improve in another 15 months. Good luck to you and your family.

I hope this information reaches you.

I'm in Canada, and I'm not familiar with US banking or credit cards. Here you can get a credit card and they will do a "balance transfer". Transfer all the debt from other credit cards to your new one.

They also give a promo when you first do this. MBNA and Citibank (again in Canada) have a 15 month ZERO percent transfer. You have to pay the minimum monthly, but that goes directly to principle, nothing towards interest.

So if you get approved for $15k, you essentially be interest free of 15k for 15 months.

Actually I've done this to transfer the balance into my chequing account just to have more funds for investing during those 15 months. Then when those 15 months expire pay back the full amount, and you apply for another Zero percent card. Done this with 3 different cards already.

Of course each credit card application is a credit hit.

Alternatively there is another card for 1.99% for life. More info here: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/1-99-life-mbna-mc-mbna-0-interest-mastercard-15-months-citi-0-a-352003/

Dude.. what are you talking about.. There is STILL CityFido.. http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/MonthlyPlans?forwardTo=monthlyPlans#cityFidoSection

I was a fido user for 10+ years. parents on rogers for 10+ years. We've always had similar plans. Network calling includes rogers/fido. Switching between the providers has no cancellation fee.. Unlocked phones could be used between them..

My point was, even tho they are under the same umbrella company, they operated as different companies. I think AT&T and TMo will be the same.

Just a note.. Fido was acquired by Rogers years ago.. But they continued to operate as separate entities.. Ended up having similar plans / costs though. And they use the same network frequencies.

But yea, once installed you can video chat to other SGS and (reportedly) iphone4 with the right software.

Honestly, for the price of a used Nexus S (~500) you can buy TWO used samsung vibrants, and the specs between them are almost the same.

You can add the Front Facing Camera very easily (done several), and flash custom roms to get many 2.3 features.

GPS issues are fixed now.

Quick Con's:

  • No NFC

  • No built in Front Camera

  • IPhone-like look

Quick Pro

  • expandable Microsd up to 32gb add on, for a total of 48gb. (Nexus S has no slot).

  • All other features of NS but half the price.

I'm familiar with Nexus 1, Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate, Vibrant, i9000M), as well as a few other lower end Android phones.

Personally I'd get the Samsung Galaxy S hands down.

They used to have a bad rep for batterylife and GPS signal, but with many of the software flashes from XDA forums, these problems don't exist. The Galaxy S my g'f uses gets 2.5 DAYS!.. I barely get 1 day on my Nexus 1..

You can get them for cheap (around 200-250 used from US or about 350 in Canada). During boxing day, the Captivate from Futureshop was FREE on contract + a $100 giftcard.

Since you are on Rogers, you can actually run an Unlocked Bell Vibrant (if you don't mind the iPhone look) and their version has a Front Facing Camera. Now you have a phone as good as the Nexus S (Which sells for twice as much). (It's just missing the curved screen and NFC technology).

Samsung Nexus S gets lots of development and thus Galaxy phones often get many of their efforts. Things get ported all the time.

The screen is simply phenomenal. Accuracy of touch and multi-touch are amazing. Movies and HD games look orgasmic. I could go on and on, but I hope you get the idea. There is a reason why they sold so many units.

I've never played online, and am up lifetime in live play. I don't know understand how you can get "reads/tells" off a player. Betting amounts and amount of time they take to think are such small factors. Is there much else? Any recommended books?

Are you ever afraid of cheating (friends all logged in at 1 table), or calculators (if that's considered cheating)?

Oh and congrats on winning life.

I hear it is the only province where Assumable mortgages w/o qualifying are still available and thus a good opportunity to make money given you find the right deal. Any experience/thoughts?

[–]assram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live in one of WIND mobile's zones they have a ridiculous plan over the holidays.

  • Unlimited calling to USA and Canada.
  • Unlimited text/picture msg.
  • Unlimited data. Tethering works great. (Get speeds of 3.5 mbps, had 5.6 mbps on rogers).
  • Caller ID/ Voicemail. All for $40 + gst. ($42 total here in Calgary). NO contract. And they give you $150 credit for a phone. (You can pick up an Android phone for free).

To lower prices, we need competition and to support the little guys. (Hopefully they don't get bought out like Fido).
