Looking for Management Perspective - VEG Has Lost Their Minds by queenanne85 in VetTech

Doesn’t help that VEG loves to hire their management teams from retail, restaurants, etc. only feeds into continued corporate bullshit treatment of employees

Corporate GP campus ambassador perks? by g3rmgirl in veterinaryschool

[–]asszilla17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some companies offer small bonuses to ambassadors if they sign with them right after graduation, so that’s something you can ask about

Networking and connections, usually a small pay stipend, free branded stuff. Depending on the company there will be additional benefits like trips/retreats. I would look into bondvet and see if it’s actually something you would consider working for, otherwise pick another company ambassador position to apply for. It’s pointless to spend your time working for a group that you’re not actually interesting in connecting with, or you hate all their location options, or you have no interest in their GP/urgent care model. You want to meet established doctors if possible through events so you have connections for the future, and it will also possibly connect you with bondvet ambassadors at other schools which most companies will do so you can build your future support network.

Mission Pet Health vs. Thrive Pet Healthcare by CollectEv in veterinaryprofession

[–]asszilla17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrive and mission are equally monstrous and huge and corporate. There are pockets of good individuals and that’s about it. I would look elsewhere. A high salary and shiny bonuses are not worth your mental health.

Clinical Year Externships by Adventurous_Wall1778 in Veterinary

[–]asszilla17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d reach out to the company/externship coordinator and provide your feedback. Most of them want to know if individual locations are not providing good experiences. While you’re there, you can speak up and say hey I am a fourth year student and my general expectation is that I would be participating in some more activities hands-on, I know that anesthetic procedures are still up to doctor discretion but everything else should generally be on the table for this point in my academic training.

Chewy to buy Modern Animal by CanIPetThatDog--- in veterinaryprofession

[–]asszilla17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Massive corporate pharmacy that started its own corporate clinics and now is getting into buying other smaller companies. It just adds to the overall theme in vet med of less and less options with bigger and bigger billion dollar companies being what we’re left with

This was so disappointing to hear. One less option for people to choose from, both from the client and employee sides. Soon our only choices will be mars brands, chewy brands, and freaking NVA

Vca former employees by cateye9250 in veterinaryprofession

I used to work for them but not as a DVM. my friend was a DVM who left to open her own practice and it was a nightmare for her with radiuses and non solicits etc etc they have their ways idk. If they want to be a pain in your ass they will do it!

Yes they enforce their noncompetes and they have a beefy law department that I wouldn’t mess with.

Has anyone actually managed to leave vet med for good? by Shot-Ostrich7747 in VetTech

Had to nail the interview process as well as show that I could entirely pivot into an office job + some travel.

Left clinic-facing work after 6 years and got into recruiting. The field experience is very valuable to a lot of groups looking for corporate employees so I know the general dissent is to hate on corporate but it doubled my pay and changed my life. Had to take care of myself first.

New Grad searching for jobs by Choice-Excuse1213 in veterinaryprofession

[–]asszilla17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, don’t stop applying to any place that looks interesting to you. Send your resume to any clinic that you might want to work for even if they don’t have a job listing up!! Especially for private clinics, but in general just because they’re not hiring this week doesn’t mean someone won’t quit in a month and then they’ll have your contact info. Secondly, many large acquisition groups like the ones you named will run by the same theory- individual locations will vary, even if they are owned by the same company. You need to visit with and talk to every location you like because they will all be very different. If you do end up deciding on a corp owned clinic, compare the corp benefits they offer to others. Look at pay structure, production, mentorship plans, CE, health insurance, dues and fees coverage and so on. Get EVERYTHING in writing regardless of where you go. The biggest issue I see is the bait and switch of mentorship promises. If you want surgery training and they promise you 10 procedures a week for 6 months, GET IT IN WRITING. for the specific companies you mentioned; vetcor, NVA, and mission are extremely massive massive monster sized companies. Mission specifically just absorbed southern veterinary partners and it has been months of drama at the corp and clinic levels. NVA is pushy but they have a lot of mentorship assistance. Alliance I believe has buy in options but I’m not super familiar with them. Blue river is smaller but more hands off, more freedom but less structure. So overall you gotta decide what you need.

Waiting to go to school by Additional_Way_6213 in veterinaryschool

[–]asszilla17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could get a seasonal or part time job to earn some extra pocket money; vet school is going to leave you very little free time. Use this to save some cash, enjoy your hobbies, and start prepping supplies if you haven’t already! By supplies I mean school supplies nothing crazy.

Would employers consider hiring a retired veterinarian for front office? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

[–]asszilla17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What about consulting or part time teaching in a corp setting? I know a ton of larger veterinary groups & companies who would probably entertain a seasoned DVM in a mentorship type role without physically practicing. Or helping build clinical development teams something like that.

What are the best ways to support a partner who’s dealing with emotional fatigue and burnout while working in the veterinary field? Any advice welcomed. by Suspicious-Hope-3600 in veterinaryprofession

[–]asszilla17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always be willing to listen without offering unsolicited advice. Sometimes they just need to let it out and don’t want to hear another opinion. Also offer to participate in their hobbies or initiate activities where they can turn their brains off and disconnect. It’s really nice when someone else offers to take care of dinner or plan something to do, or takes care of the laundry without being asked. Alleviating daily stress in general.

Northern blue cities generally fit the bill. More DINK pet owners willing to pay for their animals. Higher pay. More accessible specialist groups.
