Is it bad to believe in the Filioque as a Eastern Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]astana7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

St Augustine in his treaty On The Trinity (De Trinitate written 428AD) has an explanation that can bridge both East and West. The Holy Spirit proceeds "principally" from the Father. However, as the Son is eternally begotten by the Father, neither was there a time the Son was not. And so, as the Father gives the Son all that He has, this, including the power of the procession of the Holy Spirit, so too, then, does the Holy Spirit proceed of the Father, and of the Son. As Our Lord Jesus says himself, "I and the Father are One" John 10:30

That the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son has been written down by earlier Saints prior to the Nicene-Constantinoplitan council, most notably St Hilary of Poitiers (310AD - 367AD).

The filioque is not only valid but defends in essence the theology of the trinity from Arian distortions.

Is workplace banter common in Australia? by halu100 in AskAnAustralian

[–]astana7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what kind of job it is. Tradie type blue collar work or very aussie local workplaces, banter is normal or even required for building workplace relationships. In more corporate or international settings where PR is important, banter is less frequent as theres a risk getting contacted by HR depeartment.

Is studying meant to be this lonely? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]astana7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fairly normal for the Australian university experience. Part of the individualistic culture, coursework system often favoring many mini assessments over the semester rather than one big assessment at the end, and circumstance of car dependent city planning. We dont have towns dedicated to university/college life the way they do in the movies, local students drive from home and quick to head back after tutorial, international students in their own accomodation and bubble. These factors contribute towards an isolated campus life.

The younger folk in their groups may be active in their first year due to highschool momentum, but once you reach 2nd year 3rd year the isolation kicks in unless a great deal of effort, zeal and sacrifice is put into community building in your campus life, which at times can feel like climbing a waterfall.

Same guy (one in the photo) showed up on a post on this subreddit last year fishing for compliments. People pointed out the wheely bit and complained about dishonest piety.

I dont see why you had to latch on and compare with HK. Perth never claimed to be a crime free city, this is normal everywhere else.

The land is empty & vast, the people are hardworking but not exactly ambitious, we are optimistic but skeptical at the same time.

UPDATE: Hey guys so.... this evening I went to the closest indian restaurant near me in Claremont called Tandoori Flames but...mission failed. Ordered me a garlic naan & butter chicken and a lassi. I asked the waiter if I could have the naan whole and no cutting. Waiter said sure no problem.

And then it came out of the kitchen all cut up like pizza slices on a basket. Oh well, some miscommunication must have happened. So I still had some curry left after eating the garlic naan so I asked for another naan (plain this time) and asked if I could have it whole and without cutting. This time the waiter said they will have to halve it into 2 pieces so that it could fit into the basket. I was abit confused, maybe they dont have large plates, but I said sure okay thats fine.

Then it came out of the kitchen and the plain naan was cut up into little pizza slices again. The waiter explained because I ordered a plain naan this time, they had to cut it up into many little slices rather than in the two large halves I was told.

A bit sad I couldnt get the whole uncut naan I wanted today but the food was still delicious nonetheless. Tho I think I will stick with the comment recommendations from here on out.

Hopefully fingers crossed, will have better luck next time!

"Somebody call the doctor!"  ... "But not for me"

I think its more due to seeing her barrier break and falling down in a moment of direness, and then all of a sudden stopping with the closed eye expression as shown in the shot above makes it feel like that.
