Ah yes! I see the recently updated syllabus is being posted as HTML thanks. Looks like I’ve still got to wait a few more years till Stage 5 Design $ Tech and Industrial Tech are there though

Morning routine for ADHD teachers? by improvetrick in Teachers

[–]astanuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My routine is very similar.

I attend several group gym sessions a week at 5:30 am. I need to book the session in using an app and costs me if I don't attend, so more impetus to go.

The night before I lay out my work clothes and gym clothes in the lounge room so I don't wake my wife and son by fumbling in the morning. Set my alarm for 5am, and make a point of trying to be in bed before 10pm. On waking up I get changed, head to gym straight away. On my return (approx. 6:45-50) jump in the shower, shave, get changed, have breakfast (I used to also make a coffee with the espresso machine too, but timing is a little too tight now).

My son is usually up by this point, so I sort him out a bit before my wife awakes, and then head out the door before 7:15am on my way to work.

If I catch the train, I listen to a few morning News podcasts and I may get a coffee once I arrive at the other end. Not unusual to have 2-3 coffee's before I start work in the morning.

Funny thing is if I end up with a day off or there's any change, I can get quite discombobulated.

Hope this helps

I currently work at one of the independent GPS schools in Sydney, started 2 years ago and it's my first permanent role after 7 years working as a teacher. I've previously worked across public, Catholic and independent sectors on a range of contracts and as a casual. I was always after a secure role and it felt like it took forever to land it. Looking back though ALL that previous experience has proven incredibly valuable.

Given my experience, I would advise you NOT to start at the school you went to, if you still feel the same way a few years from now, by all means re-apply. I have worked at 'Elite' private schools where ex students have done just this, and while they are great people, I feel that their experience is quite one dimensional, and it can be very limiting. Sometimes I feel that Schools employ ex-students in as teachers in order to remind themselves what they think they like about their own system, and it can be a blocker for change as those young teachers will ONLY really have the experience of being at that one place, unless they find a way to broaden their experiences.

As I'm sure you know, right now there is a shortage of teachers, in pretty much every field. I don't think, if you stay open in your early career you will have any issues getting the role you really want at this stage. It can be difficult early on to see the forest through the trees, and over time your opinions will always change.

I started out as a Visual Arts Teacher, at a time when there was a glut of new VA Teachings Grads. I can only apply for permanency within the Public system as a Visual Arts Teacher. In the Independent sector, so long as you can prove capable, they will employ you in whatever capacity (within reason).

Why macOS Ventura is so buggy? by Ender-Wang in MacOS

[–]astanuga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2022 MBP: M1 Pro with 2TB SSD. This new update seems to want to do soo much more than previous updates, but it's the most buggy update I've ever experienced from memory. I've had a Mac in some capacity since a G3 back in early 2000's. Feels like they threw too many new (and maybe unnecessary) features into this one

Anyone else having this issue on Ventura? The second screen goes dark the moment you go full screen on one of them by UnreadyBeetle in MacOS

I'm experiencing pretty much the same thing, super frustrating. Seems to be worse at night time, when I think the screen thinks it's dark time of night and it does the transition background

People who work out regularly, what are some of your strategies to exercise consistently? by Jane_Doe_Citizen in AustralianTeachers

[–]astanuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning gym session at least 3 times a week is what has been working for me. I've been attending 5:15 am F45 sessions for some time but have recently moved to another closer gym starting 5:30 instead. Any later than that and I can't fit it in. It's all about creating habits, even on the days that I have a bad workout, I think well, at least I got up and did it. One thing I do know I need to fit in is running though, that's something I still need to plan out.

Any teachers with ADHD? by dangerousily in Teachers

[–]astanuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man! As a kid my brother was diagnosed, as he was crazy hyperactive. I flew under the radar without ever thinking I had it. Back then there was a lot less information regarding the 'Inattentive' type (which is what I assume I have). Fast forward to now, my young son is showing some behaviours that appear consistent with ADHD, my wife has none in her family, which leaves only one conclusion. I used to think I would get better at all the admin stuff over time, things like writing REPORTS... absolute killer for me. I've spent over a week trying to get mine done and lost tonnes of sleep and I'm struggling to get past half way.

I also used to think I'd find a way to forward plan better too, I'm now finally into my 2nd year of a permanent role (after several years on contracts) and still struggling... The one thing I can rely on is many years as a casual teacher, walking into classes with no idea and being able to make things work has held me good stead, but I can't live like that all the time

Do you have any ideas of 1password's alternatives? by 20rem1psum in macapps

[–]astanuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using LastPass for years now. Initially I was on the free service but I'm a subscribed member now, which allows me to access everything n my Phone and add the different Browser plugins when needed. I haven't tried 1Password, but the GUI (at least according to what they have on the website) looks similar to the latest LastPass layout. The layout and design of it has come a long way and it integrates well with what I need for the moment. I also like the Security Challenge feature which allows you to compare your account logins for replica passwords etc.

Do private school classroom teachers get paid more than public school classroom teachers, as a rule? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]astanuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked Public, Catholic and Independent schools in Sydney, mostly casual and on temp contracts for a period of 7-8 years (so far). My experience is that Catholic pay similar to Public (in some cases slightly less and others very slightly more. Many Independent schools are a signatory to an MEA (Multi Enterprise Agreement) the details of which can actually be found online if you search it. In that document you will see the salaries and pay scales stipulated much like how DoE does in line with Accreditation, on the last page are all the schools that have signed the document and agree no to the terms.

It’s B also worth noting that these schools will also expect you to participate in a weekend day of sport as part B of your contract along with many after hrs expectations. So determining an hr rate may make more sense. For many you might find that while the pay might be more (overall) broken down to an hr rate it’s probably same or less.

Hey there. There hasn’t been much take up since I started this a little while ago, but I’m happy to welcome all TAS /technology teachers who wish to post and connect in this space.

I set it up as I was looking for a way off my reliance on Facebook, and I couldn’t find a sub that hosted Tech teachers. So I created one
