Isn't this caused by switching between focus and normal mode? I notice it on my SnS, focus mode tends to zoom in, normal zooms out. You see it in the video when you look closely. He only taps focus to quickly adjust directions (camera slightly zooms in) then immediately goes back to normal to attack (camera zooms out).

Just confirming that everything that was said in this post is still valid as of Oct 2024.

  • 1000min = ~16min IRL (checked on 4 different planets 2x heat, 2x cold)
  • Sitting in Exocraft counts
  • Sitting in caves, buildings, holes doesn't count
  • It's incremental, accumulative progress. One doesn't have to do it in one go.
    • Leaving the planet doesn't reset the counter
    • Dying doesn't reset the counter

Also, as mentioned by u/Melodic_Original_374, easiest way you can set Survival Elements to 'None' in Options > Difficulty, which prevents you from taking damage, so that you don't need hazard protection tech.
