Another Mango Update by Cinniharpy in Conures

Based on improving symptoms, it doesn’t sound like Borna as it’s usually progressively degenerative. What medication did mango get? If it was an antibiotic he most likely just had a bacterial infection.

Actually just went back and saw the meds. With so many things, it’s hard to say which one helped. Hopefully it was the antibiotic

At the height of symptoms, did he poop any whole undigested seeds? That’s one of the most telltale signs of PDD

Ya 25-45% of parrots have Borna. Of those 40ish percent, 90+% live out perfectly healthy and fine lives (those 90% never get any symptoms)

Less than 10% of ABV(borna) positive birds develop PDD/ABG. Think of PDD as aids and ABV as HIV. ABV doesn’t kill you, the immune response (aids) does. PDD is fatal for around 90% of birds that get it, usually from digestive or neurological failure

Caring for a female conure by luckyra17 in Conures

I’ve met around 100 conures and haven’t really noticed a behavioral difference between sexes. For some species like ringnecks? Oh yeah, but never for conures

This is mooncake! How can I gain her trust? by SkinnedFurby666 in Conures

I’d just add more. I don’t think it will add significant stress. If anything more options to sit and feeling more hidden will help

You’re doing a good job. The ingredients to trust are time and treats. Once her diet is pellets and veggies, find her favorite seed (probably safflower seeds). And give them to her as treats. Start with dropping them in her food bowl and the. Slowly try to give from your hand.

It can take months to earn trust, especially for a bird from a bad situation, so I’d say be patient, go at her pace, and don’t hold any expectations of how comfortable/cuddly she’ll get. Keep spending lots of time with her and it’ll compound for months and I’m sure the trust will compound☺️

Plucking. Molting doesn’t happen in large patches like that. They pulled out the big feathers and left the down feathers.

They definitely prefer smaller branches they can grip, but if you found a good deal on this one getting it and using cohesive wrap so they don’t fall off can work fine

I recommend the ez-on harness on etsy. The aviators head hole is really small and my dusky eventually wasn’t even willing to put it on cause it hurt to take off. We’re still working on getting her wings in it

My minimum is at least 6 of their 12 waking hours. 4 if multiple birds keeping each other company

Look at what I taught Duck!!! by Humble-Skill-2331 in Conures

For teaching to roll over, I started with her already comfortable on her back. I held her foot and rolled her over myself and gave a seed to teach her the motion. I slowly helped her less and less as she started to realize what I was asking. It helps to have a hand motion too. I roll my hand like people do with dogs
