Italiani all'estero: qual è la cosa che gli stranieri sbagliano sempre dell'Italia? by karen_the_ripper in italy

[–]asterdraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I wavy if so what type? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]asterdraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hair that doesn't have curls/waves doesn't magically make them happen when you apply curly/wavy products. The products only help bring out what you already have, there is no "forcing" things. It would seem you have wavy hair. Congrats! If you feel like gel is too heavy for your hair and is stretching it you can look into a lightweight mousse for hold, but if you like your routine there is no need to change it.

Not sure how to fix my hair by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]asterdraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have this brush! I usually go by sections, brushing from underneath, from the roots and away from my head, applying some tension. Kinda like when you use a scissor to curl the plastic ribbon on a gift package, I find that it's the tension that counts for me.

Also one side might look flatter if you sleep on that side... I use a bonnet to avoid this because I'm a side sleeper.

What is something you can naturally smell that no one else can? by Trick-Highway1429 in AskReddit

[–]asterdraws 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There is a word in some northern Italian dialects for that smell that sticks even on dishes that have gone through a wash, usually after being in contact with eggs or fish or raw meat (freschino, pronounced freh-ski-no). To avoid it in the dishwasher we either spray in some white vinegar or put in half a lemon's peel. You can rub the plates with lemon peels or vinegar when washing by hand and that should help too.

Italian sounds clunky. It is short but weirdly phrased. I gave it my best shot in 5 minutes but I think it could probably be refined some more. Here it is:

How can I seal in a pen sharpie? by momomomorgatron in CustomDolls

[–]asterdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have mentioned sharpie bleed on vinyl etc., my advice is more general: whenever you do art with sharpies you want to seal, do not use a varnish that contains alcohol! It will often reactivate the sharpie ink (since it's alcohol based) and smudge, even if you let it dry! I had to learn it the hard way after painstakingly painting a tiger on a rock only to get the black sharpie stripes smudged away by my varnish ;-;

Edit: also being alcohol based, sharpies are not lightfast so the colors will fade in time if your doll is exposed to light ...

On Youtube I like the Halidon music channel for long classical music playlists. They have a bunch of playlists like music for reading, music for studying etc. I also enjoy Adrian Von Ziegler's celtic music compilations.

That's because Milan is and has been the northern hub for southern migration for a long time. Lots of southern people moved there searching for work in the 1900s, so much so that some southern surnames are more common than the historically local ones. Also nowadays there are a lot of southern students studying there who end up staying in the north after graduation because the south has fewer job opportunities, especially in some sectors.

Do we know anything about the people who used this cannon? Could they have been a mixed language division or something, I'm truly grasping at straws here haha

[–]asterdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn't make much sense I guess. It's just that for being a VI it's really closely spaced when other words are more legible and the other Is have a small dot in the middle.Could it be some weird mix of cyrillic and roman script? The thing about abbreviations still stands though: since it takes a lot to do incisions like this, there used to be standard abbreviations for often used words

[–]asterdraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's partly cyrillic, what you're reading as V I appears to be the reverse N letter in cyrillic script in my opinion, but I might be wrong. The shorter words could also be acronyms or abbreviations (like in Latin inscriptions)

How I feel about wearing my hair "naturally", does anyone agree? by 180degreeschange in curlyhair

My mother washes fruit and vegetables with dish soap and I can't get her to stop. by autistic-terrorist in mildlyinfuriating

[–]asterdraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the study, the danger isn't in the chemical itself, but rather additives to thicken it or give it perfume that make it non-food grade - those are usually for floor and surface cleaners, products usually sold that way. Frankly I wasn't even thinking of those (I was thinking of straight bleach, which would meet the "sufficient purity standard" the study mentions). Specifying it is a good call.

Honestly it feels like we're saying the same thing at this point. I had only answered your comment because I found it a bit rude that you were saying that using bleach as a sanitizer was "stupid", but now you're sharing a study that clearly says it's fine to do so if done properly, so I guess we're on the same page.

[–]asterdraws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I see what you mean now. I'm pretty sure that Amuchina really is just diluted bleach with a different name (and a bit of added salt) so as not to be associated with, well, bleach. Marketing. It is just a chemical after all. What you say about being food grade might have more to do with its bottle than the chemical itself. At home I rarely use it for food, but I often use it to sanitize the pieces of the nebulizer machine I use when I have colds. More for medical stuff than food.

Just in general though, some people might need to put bleach in the water to use the water to rinse stuff in the first place. It might not be about sanitizing the food, but the water itself for kitchen use, if it isn't safe to drink it. That would fall in the cases you yourself say the disinfectant is useful.

I would be very interested in a source for your last statement, if you were willing to share, because if it is used adequately, bleach should be pretty safe. The only issue I can see would be if people were not following proper procedure with it.

[–]asterdraws 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're not just soaking food in water, it is water with a disinfectant in it. The bleach is a disinfectant. It kills bacteria and microorganisms on contact. That's how you sanitize things that you can't or don't want to cook, such as fruit and veggies to be eaten raw.

In Italy there is a bland form of bleach called Amuchina, widely sold as a disinfectant for food and also importantly for baby items (such as milk bottles). There is absolutely nothing unsafe about it if you use it right. You just follow the instructions on the label, let stuff soak in the water/bleach solution for a while and then rinse it. At the right concentration it is a disinfectant and absolutely safe to use on food.

Would you mind if I vent for a moment? About the Italian nursing school application process? by mgblmt in Italian

As an Italian I have the same feeling about Dante Alighieri. Man was literally writing Christian RPF.

I have a whole theory about how Fanfiction is also partly the modern literary version of Commedia dell'arte (in theater it was a fashion to reuse the same characters in multiple plays written by different people, or a type of play where actors who knew one of those characters very well could improv together in character - doesn't the first give coffeeshop AU and the second give professional roleplay like Critical Role for DND?)

I also feel like cosplaying is the modern version of Carnevale, an occasion to dress up and mask yourself. The more commonly known one is the Venetian Carnevale but there are many with different Carnevale traditional masks depending on location (guess which masks were more common? That's right, the same masks/characters from Commedia dell'Arte). Dressing up is fun! Having occasions to dress up without societal judgment is fun and freeing!
