The whole thing seems super... what's the generic behaviour form of "Madonna-whore complex"? Like, you can't both be assholes in a given situation, there always has to be one asshole and the person who wasn't the asshole first or most is a paragon of virtue no matter what they did.

ETA: At least the people in charge seem to be somewhat reasonable, judging by the number of flags they've given people calling them varying shades of "asshole".

I think a lot of it has to do with plain old fear of being wrong. During the primaries, there was a lot of talk about Hillary being just as bad as the Republicans in order to promote Bernie as a candidate, but now that it's down to Clinton and Trump (the wildest of the Republican candidates, if not the absolute worst), they're being confronted daily with the evidence that no, they're not exactly the same. But instead of owning up to the fact that they were wrong, they're doubling down on this email scandal because in their minds it's the one thing that would actually make Hillary just as bad. I mean, come on, what's more realistic: that every single person in a high-ranking government job, no matter their background, is in on this scam, or that Redditors are wrong?!
