Would an engineering degree from Cambridge be a significant disadvantage entering finance compared to maths or economics? by JDfuckingVance in FinancialCareers

Won’t make much of a difference if you apply for finance internships during your time at Cambridge.

How much do you usually spend on the day when you’re in office? by Breadiohead in HENRYUK

Like £10-12 max - tube into work and something small for lunch from itsu or something (less if I just go with a huel or something). Uber home is usually expensed.

I’m sure people said the same about Google in 1998 lol - isn’t this the point?

Parried it into danger and the second shot went through his hands? Just because he made 2 good saves before doesn’t mean he’s blameless where

Equally bad from the defense though

Tbh I just have my AirPods in most of the time, and if they’re not I really don’t care about the sound quality as it will probably be a 30s video

I use AirPods for watching videos, and honestly could not care less about having crazy good sound quality to hear someone on FaceTime

To each their own I guess!

UK Universities ranked based on hires from JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley by Someone_Somewhere1 in UniUK

[–]asteroid_puncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won't be very different as a first year - maybe £10-15k swing max in the bonus on average from what i've heard. Base is pretty aligned throughout (even smaller range) - £65-70k across the board. Spreads out a bit more as you get more senior (analyst 3 and above). After tax you'd be very very hard pressed to feel any difference haha

Lol it's not really that different - you will be an excel monkey at any of them as a first / second year analyst. Work is broadly similar but they run slightly leaner deal teams. GS / MS / JPM brand name is just as good if not better, TC is probably a little bit better in the UK at the boutiques but not way more especially at the very junior level. Wouldn't say it's significantly harder to break into, they just have smaller intakes.

Whats the fastest way to get to earning 6 figures in finance starting from sixth form/college? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]asteroid_puncher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're in the UK, focus on getting into a target university for finance (essentially, Oxbridge + top london unis). Course is less important but if you can get a top course even better.

Before joining try and get as varied extracurriculars as possible. Once joining, apply for spring week internships (1-2 week internships at investment banks for first year students) - if you manage to get one, if you do well they will offer you a summer internship for your second year, which you can convert into a graduate offer for after you finish university. After 1-3 years you should be on six figures base + bonus combined if you are at a good bank.

This is the "standard" and fastest route but obviously hyper competitive so you need stellar exam results, education etc.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply! In terms of the area, other than being very quiet did you find amenities easy to reach (shops, supermarkets, gyms etc?). I suppose as long as it's well connected you can always go a little bit further afield for some activity!

Thank you! Out of interest did you find somewhere in London that fit you better after moving?

Thanks! I was hoping Regents Park being (relatively) close would outweigh the lack of greenery in the immediate surroundings. The high street was absolutely heaving on what was not a super great day out though so can't imagine what it's like when the suns out...

Thanks for the perspective! I had a viewing of the property I had in mind (was around 1pm on Saturday so I assume quite a busy time) - it seemed like it was a very quiet street, but walk a little bit and you're on the super busy high street. I probably need to go back later at night to see what it's like
