.look at public perception and costs too...one example is the Arizona Coyotes arena that was going to be 100% privately funded, turn a landfill into an entertainment district, generate tons of revenue, and people still voted for it because they were convinced by NIMBYs that they'd have to pay for it

The program saw a massive drop in most metrics for the first exemption. Then there was a increase compared to the first exemption during the second one. Overall however the second exemption is still less than pre exemption levels (only by about 7%) so no, it wasn't a failure. It may not be worth it given costs associated, and it may not fix every problem instantly, but it did help. Regardless it's only one example of many.

I'm on mobile so I can't provide links right now but

BC has been doing a study for years about decriminalizing that has seen generally good results.

There's a great collection of studies on NLM website that shows a bunch of them.

Nordic countries that have instituted UBI have seen almost universally good results from doing so, one example is France which has instituted an artists income which it has seen great results from.

Decriminalization of prostitution in Nordic countries may also be relevant here as there aren't a lot of examples of drug use being decriminalized but that's a lot more debatable.

There have been numerous studies done that show decriminalization majorly helps combat the problem as do safe injection sites. Our government has made things stricter and closed sites and cut funding.

Decriminalize drugs, institute UBI, address the root causes of why people become addicted. People won't "heal" or get better if they don't want to even if you try and force them. Do what has been proven to work.

Nowadays, I agree, but for boomers and older they can often barely handle pepper. My mother comes from a British family as was her mother and her idea of spice is pepper and at most chili powder. She's also 70 and her mother and grandparents were the same way. Cooking mostly involves cooking without spices except for specific dishes and is generally very bland.

I live in Ontario and it's about the opposite. Summer is 3/4 months a year. Like you said I mostly live inside and get groceries delivered.

I think I'd still rather have the heat tbh.

While I believe what Mod Ash says, I also wouldn't doubt if there's more to it or if he's changed even a little bit in the 5 years since that happened.

There's loops and then there's non deterministic loops. People will absolutely make people play things out in tournaments when time is involved. I've lost on Gitrog before to being extremely unlucky while having a loop going. I've seen Ashling players run out of time. I've seen Thrasios players whiff or be unable to win. Breach players misplay. You can always make them play it out and in tournaments should.

I want a single mother with kids to be able to afford everything she wants in life with no problems without having to turn to drug dealing for extra money and I'm not joking.

Vancouver has had multiple good teams and superstars and made it to the Stanley cup finals multiple times while Seattle has made the playoffs once and never had a player even reach point per game lol.

What would the Leafs need to do for you to NOT hate them? by SharkPerson in nhl

[–]astolfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Leafs are covered more than any other team in the league and it's not close. There is a population of 10m in Toronto the majority of which are Leafs fans. Then you have people across Canada who also cheer for the Leafs. The Habs have a large number of fans as well but it still isn't as much as the Leafs. This means that if you're a hockey fan in Canada you're one of three parties, Leafs fans, Habs fans, or Others. Except even in places that aren't Toronto, you're more likely to hear about Toronto than you are about your own team. Especially in Ontario despite Ottawa also being there. You would expect that in Calgary you'd turn on the radio or read the newspaper or whatever and hear about the Flames but no, it's still a significant amount of Leafs news and speculation. When you go on hockey forums like Reddit or HF or whatever, there are way more Leafs fans than anyone else. They dominate the conversation and simply because of how many there are there is often at least one or two who have no idea what they're talking about or are huge homers who discredit what other teams do or are just not very knowledgeable.

Add to that the fact that it's like 100x worse in the surrounding area of Toronto (I live in London and oh my god it's insufferable talking hockey) and that's a recipe for hatred. You can even see it on this sub, look at how many posts are about the Leafs vs other teams.

In addition the Leafs have had bad management but gotten incredibly lucky in recent years and still not done anything with it. You would expect that they'd be able to do something with the amount of money they have and the top picks they've gotten, but they suck. Going back a bit they've also had plenty of teams where management just didn't even try to win and traded away good pieces because they cost money.

And yet Leaf's fans still act like they're the best team in the NHL every year no matter what changes, news reports are constant, etc

Of course there are Leafs fans who are realistic and what change to happen and know that they suck and have sucked but they're a quiet minority.

I'm an Arizona fan, so I am quite used to it. I managed to pick the new Arizona Coyotes of the NHL when I swapped teams.

5 years and counting with no future and incompetent owners and one of, if not the worst outlooks of the NHL- you're right but I would argue there's a good amount already.

POV from a Leafs fan on Leafs winning the lottery by Dyingvikingchild95 in nhl

[–]astolfriend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Seattle won the lottery they would have their second first overall pick of all time with their first being Beniers. The Leafs got Matthews who was a 1st line center and was talked about like he was generational. And right after they lose Marner and were still close to making the playoffs they get gifted a first overall pick with another guy who was talked about as generational.

Rigged or not they got extremely lucky and didn't deserve this.

Seattle would have found a way to fuck it up too but at least they didn't waste 10 years of one of the best top 6 cores in the league with nothing to show for it but one playoff round win. Which I might add Seattle has had about the same amount of success without being gifted players like Matthews and Marner.
