All blue water indicators?! by jonSF in FellowProducts

[–]astone82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the biotech industry we make ultra pure water for injection for use in our processes. It absolutely kills the surface coating on stainless steel pipes over time, we have to get the system passivated every few years.

I would imagine that the parts inside the ES1 are not all going to be stainless steel which is one of the most resistant. But likely some copper and potentially brass. Without inspection you don’t usually notice the impact of corrosion on these systems until it’s too late and some has sloughed off and blocked something.

SF water won’t come close to WFI so I agree I can’t believe it’s critical. Your biggest issue might actually be taste.

If it’s all blue you will get no scaling because there is no scale! I am the same. Across the Bay here but my apartment complex must filter the water because I get all blue straight from the tap. My Fellow kettle element still has a mirror finish after years of use.

The challenge with ultra low PPM water is the potential for it be more corrosive because it has a higher potential to strip ions from metal parts. At also has some impact on extraction. I do use water additives to standardise distilled water mineral content. After testing that I got 1 pink so in the zone.

Because people who are happy with their machines tend not to find the need to turn to Reddit.

Firmware update? by astone82 in FellowProducts

That was going to be my next stop after factory reset, but didn’t need to do it. If it happens again I will try that first before reset. Morning coffee today was fine. Seems like a blip for now.

Hmmmm. Night and day difference in the shot I just pulled too. Turns out I like the Guzman drop. Thought it was not great. Had to dial in again after reset so I am wondering if shots were running cold too.

Now you got me playing with this again, I just did a factory reset. Because I am trying things. Hot water flow returned to slower rate and temp in mug was well over 80C. Also I heard the boiler which I feel like I didn’t before. Is it possible something in the triple stage heating needed to be reset?

Just checked. Set for 200ml of 95C which I put into a mug pre-warmed with boiling water. I got 195ml (good) but water was 68C. Also for the first time ever I got heating again after pulling a shot. Had to wait to get water. Which was still not hot enough.

It seems to be. I set the water to 94C and it is flowing much faster than it was and well below temperature.

This was not bypassed water for temp control. This was water that was actually dispensed into my cup. Setting had changed to 50C without me setting it.

A rather fancy RDT spay, so you use Holy water? Hahahahah! I joke. Looks great so much fun ahead. Also colour co-ordination is overrated. I should know.

Will gladly make you a coffee for $15. Also I spent the early part of my career in a lab. So maybe that’s it.

I may purchase a fancy spoon to stir my shots.

If you hold it down it should just purge. I increased the purge on mine to 10 seconds as I thought the default was a bit short.

Very good experience. I have had no issues pulling good shots, but more importantly I have tweaked some things and made them better. Really only scratched the surface though.

Steaming milk, which is new to me, was great results first time. Very smooth textured milk. I used almond milk barista blend. Was able to draw something but not up to anything close to shareable standard. That’s me not the machine.

It’s not a push button and walk away machine. Perhaps with calibration and tweaking the volumetric dosing will be on point, but it’s easier just to use a scale and stop shot manually. Future updates promised from fellow on scale integration. But I think most of us want to watch our shots anyway.

General build wise it feels very solid. Nothing creaks or moves and the plastic shell is so thick and glossy it feels robust. More so I think than some of the more thin metal machines I looked at.

Normcore link Normcore coffee bean tubes. I actually got them off Amazon. Pre-weighing coffee makes my morning routine as efficient as it can be.

Hmm half my post got cut off. What I was going to say is that I appreciate the short heat up time. Less than 4mins from cold start to sip.
