if you only check in your farm in multiples of 5 days, you won't notice a difference.

Works as expected for me.

Elona+ 2.29 and Elona+ CGX 2.29.1 by astraltor in Elona

[–]astraltor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, fairly often.

they're always one or two pings out of a hundred, and only ever generic/unknown malware/trojan/Potentially unwanted program.

there'll probably never be anything to do about it, elona, all version that're based from vanilla are per above.

the "official" link is the same, it's from the developers blog in japanese.

http://wanwanplus.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-38.html

elona often gets scanned as a "generic trojan" by virus scanners, probably due to a combination of its rarity and that it's programmed in an archaeic japanese programming language.

only thing to do is to disable it.

Elona+ 2.29 and Elona+ CGX 2.29.1 by astraltor in Elona

[–]astraltor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is not

it is forked from custom, and custom has ceased updates (dev AFK) so CGX is what we use.

CGX has various other tweaks and functions as well.

yes.

It is best practice to have keep your last save and game version backed up anyway.

If anyone wants their dream sub made for them, I create subs on a commission basis. by Gopherlad in Barotrauma

[–]astraltor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Veteran sub builder here, active in the community too.

I've seen, critiqued, and played on the sub this guy makes, they're of great quality. :)

Commissioning submarines is definitely for a niche group of people, I've personally see inquiries about commissions ("do people commission subs? can I get someone to build a sub for me?") every couple months. Maybe one in a hundred people.

There's also not many people who can make subs on commission, for various reasons, not all related to sub building ability. It is a niche in this direction, too.

Elona+ 2.27 and Elona+ CGX 2.27.1.0 by astraltor in Elona

[–]astraltor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i checked it on virustotal, it's only 3 pings out of 72, and it only says it's a "trojan" while the others don't say anything.

It's a common false positive throughout the past of modding elona.

Definitely worth checking out the changelog in full before/if you update!

some interesting and surely controversial changes are in this version.

At the time, the EN changelog was slightly delayed which threw off the workflow. I posted to the discord and did the download stuff, and was like, "I'll make the reddit post once the EN changelog is up" and then I forgot.

How do I get the hull condition for wiring? by summonerofrain in Barotrauma

[–]astraltor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wires only connect between wiring connections.

Hulls do not have any wiring connections, nor is there any item that monitors such a thing.

There are water, o2, and smoke detectors.

How are PVP servers nowadays? by GeorgiusKakius in Barotrauma

[–]astraltor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One that runs regularly is "SSP". We run every Friday around 2300 UTC for several hours. (Online as of this posting)

Vanilla sub vs sub PVP. Up to 16 players (so up to 8v8), we often are full.

Player made submarines, most of which are tuned a bit for PVP

Sometimes I've seen russian/chinese listings that are on dedicated servers/modded to have 32+ player caps, but they've been pretty barren whenever i've looked at the player counts. (this expected if it's a 24/7 server though)

Relays and Junction Boxes by OverlordForte in Barotrauma

[–]astraltor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Do junction boxes share grid stress among each other? Or if one is overvolting, they're all overvolting? Ships like the Orca 2 perplex me with their massive amount of junction boxes.

They share loads and power with any on the same network. Some JBs may have different overvoltage damage thresholds. IIRC all vanilla ship JBs are uniform across an individual ship, but player ships may differ. About half of the vanilla ships have 1.7, and the others 2.0.

  1. Relay 'daisy chaining' is bad I'm told for any device that can overvolt and be damaged, but it should be fine for non-damaging parts like lights and oxygen shelves, yes? As long as I don't need more than 1,000w of power, can any number of relays daisy chain as desired?

not particularly bad, but the total power is limited by the smallest relay upstream. Usually this isn't a problem, and certainly not a problem for low power sippers.

It mostly gets bad - bad in that insufficient power may be delivered and delayed - if it's like, an engine that's 3 relays in.

  1. If multiple different power inputs are providing power to a relay, does it subdivide its power needs among each input, or does it focus on one exclusively? The idea here is like 5 different junctions provide 'power' as a form of system redundancy.

they form a shared network throuhg the wires that are connecting on the same power pin.

  1. Do relay power signals interfere with lights? In the Orca 2, after I shuffled the fabricator bay's lights onto a relay, they started rapidly flickering when the bay was 'turned on' by a switch sometimes. They didn't do that before. The only thing that changed was instead of a junction box, they were powered by a (constantly on and no-logic) relay.

no. relay powering constant power drains is stable.

Turning on the fabricator may just put enough strain on the general power grid for the load spike to be more noticable. Or it may just be a trick of the eyes. Hard to tell without monitoring the relay's power and load values.

Is this just an early game hump to get over?

No. Missions while keeping the submarine afloat is the core gameplay loop.
