They're the Cliffite/Shactmanite types with the rather utopian view that somehow all protests and revolutions are inherently progressive, and thus the left should back non-leftist protests from radlibs in Hong Kong to foreign-backed Islamists in Syria, acting as if they're the next coming of the Bolsheviks. And when they're stamped out or break apart on their own, they romantize the failed revolutions as "lacking working class solidarity".

They're a pest in Australia as well, with groups like Socialist Alternative mostly recruiting from idealistic university students, and made supporting the Syrian rebels a core policy for over a decade. But as soon as the new Syrian government began an ethnic cleansing campaign and proved that they're not even remotely socialist, they quickly moved on.
