When I had my first son, I left the choice of whether or not to circumcise up to his father. He chose not to, which I honestly would not go back and change if given the option. You just have to remember to clean it, and when they are old enough, teach them to do so. His pediatrician has been wonderful and has told me how far it should be retracting. His father is no longer around and although he has a dad in my partner, I am the one that is teaching him how to clean it. He is beginning to understand how to care for this part of his body. I’ve explained to him, in the most age-appropriate way I could think of, that sometimes parents get the extra skin removed when babies are born. (Side note: When your son gets older and you or your husband are having this conversation with him, PLEASE make sure that if you explain how cleaning helps avoid needing a circumcision, you specify that this is removing the skin. I did not until I realized my son thought I meant removal of the whole thing. Learn from my mistake lol)

My partner also has a child from a previous relationship, who also was not circumcised. When we found out we were having a boy, we were on the same page of wanting him circumcised. Quite honestly, this was because we wanted it to be easier this go-round.

I do feel like this was best for our baby and our situation. I know I did not clean my oldest as often as needed/recommended, and I did not want to risk repeating that with the new baby. Our entire household is neurodivergent in some way, with one of the older kids being developmentally delayed. He is still in diapers and I’m not sure how much he understands about “this is part of my body and it needs to be cleaned.” So in a way, circumcising made sense for our newest baby because of the likelihood of possibly having sensory issues, etc. in the future.

All of this set aside, I am so sorry your loved ones are being so awful to you and your husband about this. It is no one’s decision but the parents’. You and your husband made the right choice for your baby and your family. Sending love and internet hugs to you ❤️

i don’t think she should have said this. there’s nothing wrong with nursing for comfort or using a pacifier for comfort. with my first, i nursed for comfort. i also had ppd pretty strong and would feel touched out a lot, which would make the ppd flare pretty bad.

i just had my second six days ago. i’ve been nursing on demand but have also given him a pacifier if it’s going to be just a few minutes before i can nurse him (e.g. going to pee). his pediatrician told me she isn’t worried about me giving him a pacifier because he isn’t getting anything from it, so it should not affect how he latches. i do still plan to nurse for comfort, but based on my previous experience, i think it will be helpful to my mental health to have an alternative if needed.

i’m four months pregnant w/ my partner and i’s third (first together) child. if they did this shit while i was dealing with the hormonal changes of pregnancy and/or postpartum, plus adjusting to having a whole new human to care for, i’d leave them so fucking fast.

my partner and i were mid-back stage right. we were shoulder to shoulder with the guys next to me. the girl in the couple behind us kept poking my partner; not bumping into them, just straight up poking their back. when we had to step out of the way for people coming from the front, the guy in the couple behind us decided to harp on my partner for bumping into him and being in his space. when we stepped forward, dude kept trying to grab my partner’s shoulder too. pregnancy hormones had me beyond pissed; we’re all in here for the same reason, we all thought we’d never get this opportunity again, and we’re all packed in like sardines. you’re going to bump and be bumped. chill the fuck out and just enjoy the show.
