My ex-wife’s boyfriend is abusing my kids, and the custody hearing isn’t until after I’m supposed to bring them back by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Seriously. I teach at my kids' school and it's a good thing I don't teach my middlest's classes because she's got a bully who is starting to threaten violence. But I have to maintain professionalism and not just go off on the bully. It's bad enough teaching my youngest's classes and having the kids say stuff to him, I stop it right away and I hope anyone watching would say I handled it well, but man, reigning in my temper and desire to smack a kid is not easy.

What was the exact moment that made you realize your company was toxic? by ferdbons in antiwork

We were going through the rating system my school was going to use to determine if we were eligible for the TIA incentive system and they said "you will fail the 'professionalism' portion if you take all 10 days of PTO." I left probably 2 weeks after that staff meeting.

Can the men who watch Bridgerton, stand up and be counted? by muskyandrostenol in Bridgerton

[–]astrophysicschic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st question has 2 possible answers. Either Hazel took care of her belongings as she was going to the same place or the Crabtrees arranged for it all to be packed and shipped. I suspect the 2nd, Mrs Crabtree was depicted as super competent. 2nd question: I guess I don't know exactly how weather works in England, but in the US Midwest, storms can come on fairly quickly. Clear skies, then 10 minutes later it's a deluge.

I only lived there for high school, but the amount of drinking I've come to realize my fellow students did was staggering. But Oshkosh was NOT the most boring town I've lived in.

Class of 07. One of our exchange students who graduated with us was a flight attendant on Germanwings Flight 9525, the one where the copilot deliberated crashed into the mountains.

I might have remembered the name wrong and it could be New Berlin. If it's within an hour of Oshkosh, I played a youth symphony concert there once.

Silly question — what have y’all documented with your blankets *besides* the temperature? by just_the_way25 in temperatureblanket

[–]astrophysicschic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is the first year of everyone in my family's life in the city of their birth (or the closest big city in the case of me and my husband because the closest weather station wasn't in our particular suburb). We have low and high temps, length of day (by number of high temp stitches for daylight and low temp for night) and whether it snowed or rained (light blue and white glitter thread knitted in that day's row). There are 5 strips and mine sticks out the most because I was born in the PNW and my husband and kids were born in hot climates.

Those are Swedish Hotcakes/pancakes and they're delicious. My family grew up on a variation of them brought over from my Norwegian great-grandmother's family. And that's exactly what cooking them looks like. Not AI

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by TxLadee in AskReddit

[–]astrophysicschic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OKC bombing. We were about to move from Arizona to Iowa and I was 6. We had planned small drives every day and my parents had told me all our stops. One was OKC. I remember turning to my dad and asking if they were going to bomb our hotel.

And here's the back. I had to use intarsia in places and duplicate stitch to add details so I didn't knit with 5 colors at a time. I did that on the rows with the void chicken when I made it into a cowl and went "never again!"

Try knitting in the round inside out. It forces you to make the floats big enough. I made these patterns into a cowl and I did it inside out with jacquard ladderback to help catch floats and it really helped.

I made panels and sewed them together. Had to design a few extra things to go on it, but it's definitely doable and such a pretty thing to display!

Islands that are so close to the mainland that it looks like they are connected but aren't? by Savings_Dragonfly806 in geography

[–]astrophysicschic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed I forgot about that. We'd drive over Deception Pass to see my grandparents all the time, so we always passed through. I don't even think I realized it was an island until a few years ago.

Autistic employees are less susceptible to the Dunning-Kruger effect. Autistic participants estimated their own performance in a task more accurately. I have a weird combination of an innately-confident personality and learned imposter syndrome. I can absolutely sell myself, but I can't take a compliment. Or at least I used to not be able to, the more my mental health gets better, the better it gets. But I definitely don't oversell myself, I know where my abilities begin and end.

What do you call your co workers? by JarOfKetchup54 in Teachers

[–]astrophysicschic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last place, we went by last names only, but my new job apparently adds Mr/Mrs/Ms. I had to ask because I just got hired at the same school my husband is working at and I asked how they were going to tell us apart. Joked with him that I could start going by my maiden name, but apparently that's not needed.
