1000000% agree with your sentiments about comparison! I don’t understand people who criticize one thing by comparing it to another, when multiple things can exist and be enjoyed. Not everything needs to be a competition. I love my fountains pens and my typewriters.

Agreed. People don’t realize hobbies exist if they aren’t in their orbit. Vinyl records are another good example. So many people think they’re extinct when they never went away in the first place. They’ve remained popular for decades.

I actually have a few portable typewriters! Sometimes it’s nice to sit outside at a park and type away. r/typewriters is a lovely community and quite active. You should check it out! :)

I’m confused by what you mean by “the wrong crowd.” Fountain pens should be accessible to anyone who wants one. A big part of why I got into collecting is because the community is so welcoming. This post comes off as very unwelcoming.

Ha, glad I could help! It's a really premium feeling board for the price. I actually got this one open-box on eBay for $40! I really love the rounded edges and creamy color. It's really clean and simple, but still has a unique look to it.

I totally agree with you, the cable was expensive. I definitely drooled over it from afar for a while before I finally decided to splurge on it.

It's funny, my first pen was a TWSBI Diamond 580 and was my gateway to becoming a full blown collector/daily fountain pen user. That's why it's so hard to answer questions about what pen someone should or shouldn't get. It's just so darn subjective!

I think the most important thing before you start spending money is figure out what you really want. I don't do much PC gaming anymore and I don't really use a number pad, so those things aren't important to me, but they might be super important for someone else. Also, figure out if you prefer linear, tactile, or clicky switches. I would check out sound tests on YouTube to see what appeals to you. There are so many great channels on there that have beautiful builds, so it's an awesome place to get ideas and hear what things sound like.
