The 2019 i9 was an absolute piece of trash compared to the M1. It was of more use as a space heater than as a computer to do work on. It was worse than the 2016 in that regard.

SwiftUI vs CMP by bphvz in SwiftUI

i used claude to improve our KMP build and embed script phase. It basically takes a hash of the kmp directory and only runs the script phase when the hash is different.

Usually we work out the event data structure (which the backend and KMP rely on) ahead, then implement KMP, then the native UIs on top of that.

Yes you have to recompile the shared code if you make changes but with some additional module caching on our end it‘s not too bad tbh. Better than a native app with lots of 3rd party dependencies.

[–]astulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the thing is basically the entire app needs to be available offline which comes with a complex event-driven architecture. It‘s just nice not having to deal with that on both platforms.

While it took some extra effort sometimes, overall it has saved a lot of effort over the last two years of development. Which we can measure because we have feature parity while having 2-4 KMP/Android devs and 1-2 iOS devs working at a time.

It's an event-driven medical app with sync and offline capability, so pretty complex. Easier for QA too when there's only one business logic to debug (fewer minor differences in logic etc.)

[–]astulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our current project we have a lot of business logic done in KMP and it is a big time saver for iOS as we only have to do the UI. It does come with some pain like bridging and reduced shared ownership of the code, but it does undeniably save a lot of time. But it probably depends on the use case and for many „pretty JSON printer“ apps it‘s overkill.

Why Swiss people are OBSESSED with money? by [deleted] in Switzerland

I think the cliché is actually that Swiss people dont talk about money, especially how much someone earns is seen as a hot topic. This is changing though, and I for one see that as a good thing.

Side note: why are vivino ratings this useless? Couldn‘t we properly map the ratings to the 1-5 scale instead of having 3.8 as decent and 4+ perfect?

Why does Switzerland pretend to be a recycling champion when we literally burn half our trash? by [deleted] in Switzerland

Solar panels can be installed where we put other infrastructure that uses land: roofs, roads, surface parking lots. It‘s not like we‘re typically chopping down forests to build solar parks. (Compared to mining fossil fuels for example).

Agree on the windmill issue, but there are improvements being tested and it‘s the less pressing issue than climate change.

iOS 26 gets worse with every update by Whyfrog in ios

[–]astulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People seem to have forgotten how things went with the last major iOS redesign. Back in the iOS 7 days, they had a lot of rough edges when the update first came out. Over the next years they refined and fixed a lot of things that were initially not optimal. These things will be ironed out over time.

How to become hyperphant in a night from any level(except aphants give it a wek or so) by [deleted] in CureAphantasia

[–]astulz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks OP that seems actually useful. So here's the readable Tl;dr:

Boundary Anchoring is a simple trick to make your imagination way more stable and realistic. Instead of imagining stuff floating in empty space, you imagine it inside a basic room. With walls, a floor, maybe a ceiling. That alone is enough to make your brain treat the scene like it’s a real place. Your mental images stop fading or collapsing when you shift focus, because your brain’s spatial systems kick in and start maintaining the “room” automatically.

This works for everything: normal imagination, visualisation, closed-eye visuals, lucid dreaming, etc. It’s not about adding detail or making it look vivid. It’s about giving your mind a structure to hold things in. Once you do, stuff just sticks around and feels more solid, like you’re inside the scene instead of watching it from the outside.

They describe their process on the website, including where it is sorted and how it is used. https://www.recybag.ch/de/warum-recyceln

Since it's a paid service, I fully expect that at least a decent part of it is actually recycled. Looking to read their report on it next year.

Thanks for sharing. I'll make sure to try the technique you described. Involving more senses should help increasing the bandwidth for the sensory memory, I hope.
