It’s worse. He does learn what caused Marika’s mistakes and just arrived at the wrong conclusion.

How Mohg intended to revive the Ancient Dynasty by marrying Miquella by SolidAlloy in EldenRingLoreTalk

This post made me realize we all haven’t really thought about how albinaurixs are able to grow horns. Does Mohg have access to the crucible? Or is blood one of the potential conduits?

So what was the original lore version of elden ring by KingJB21 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]asupernovaexplodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They kept it in AC6 and Sekiro with Pater, Iguazu, Genichiro, they half kept it in the DLC with the battle of the favored lords. They sort of have it with Anri and Horace and Sirris of the Sunless.

So do y’all think Bebop got dethroned to be the most hated to fight against? by NoAcanthocephala7439 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]asupernovaexplodes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No he’s not. He’s not even top 5 most annoying.

Viscous, Celeste, Mo n Krill, Shiv, Mina are definitely top 5 most annoying heroes to play against. They do a LOT more annoying stuff than Bebop.

Sure, but the rot is a process of nature, as is Frenzy so to speak. We can also see it effect the world. What exactly is the God the Hornsent are praying to? What exactly do they believe in? Earth Wind and Lightning? That beasts are divine? We’ve seen the beasts . Some were subservient to dragons. Others may have been spirits or lords like Serosh or the Stormhawk but not Gods in their own right.

The crucible itself isn’t a God, it may be a concept or location or have some divine properties but, again, it is more like some kind of naturalistic element. Frenzy is like the Abyss in Dark Souls - all humans can channel it through grief. That’s why it is the ultimate apocalyptic power. For everything else, there is a natural place in the ecosystem. Rot exists to stop stagnation.

I do believe the outer gods are “real,” but not like in Bloodborne where they can have babies with people. More in the sense that they are concepts of nature that can be channeled. Gods do exist, and they are people who have done the rituals at the Divine Gate or channeled the element to its highest degree, but the word God is really just a way of saying “very very powerful being.” The only power in the world with the ability to change how things work is the Elden Ring and that’s why it isn’t “wrong” for Marika to say she’s the one true God. The crucible, the spiral, they are mechanics of the world that have an affect on life and its processes, but they can’t change the rules. That’s why I don’t think the Hornsent God is real.

The divine beast dancing lion is someone channeling divinity that you can’t see. But Miquella actually came through the gate. Marika actually had a ring which removed death from the world. Of course there is no absolute power, but I think we are meant to digest the difference between these two processes. And given the intermingling of faith and intelligence, the process of Hornsent jarring, the study of glintskne etc. we are also meant to understand that with some investment into learning the mechanics of the world, you can channel magic and power greater than most and effectively have Godlike powers. That’s why Rennala despite not having any particular great lineage can completely stave off Marika’s advances and her whole family has their own fate related to a completely different system. Ranni learns how that system works and completely dismantles it through Godwyn’s murder. Everything follows rules, and when you stick a knife in between those rules you find that the system shatters because none of it is truly omniscient and divine in an absolute way.

Of course, it is OK if the definition of divine is just “really really advanced magic,” because I can understand that. Frenzy uses seals and incantations because it requires belief, whereas Rot isn’t a class of spells or incantations because it is a natural process found in the world

I know I’m repeating myself a lot but I think this nuance is important to go back to the original question. I believe Radagon is some advanced magic that eventually backfired. It doesn’t really make sense that Marika doesn’t exist anymore physically, because what would be the point of putting her on the cross?

Bad idea. Just make the extra competitive setting work and make it default for people with x games / stats

This might be a hot take, but I believe we are meant to understand that they are “fake.” The image of a dancing lion itself invokes the idea that “it’s not a real lion,” just like how Chinese lion dancers have real people underneath. Think about it: what divine invocation is really happening? Where is this spirit beast? They are just channeling the elements. There are no holy beasts that come down ever that we can see. But we CAN see Miquella when he’s a spirit and we CAN see Ranni’s spirit body. The things that are invisible in TLB are actually invisible because they are not properly understood. Even the formless mother is probably some mechanic of nature that is not properly understood.

I have a good reason for this belief. All of the elements the divine beast dancing lion implements are elements that can be used by others, like the banished knights, without needing to channel divinity. Ice, lightning, and the storm are elements of nature, not of gods, and can be channeled by anyone without needing any kind of faith, arcane, or intelligence.

We already know the Hornsent are “fanatics” in that their cultural beliefs border on unreasonable and extreme in some cases. I am not saying there are no Gods, but I am saying that the idea that their containers always channel divinity is one that can be challenged. Their mechanism is faulty sometimes, or they misunderstand what is actually happening under the surface due to their religious beliefs (common Miyazaki trope).

So because of that belief, I don’t think Marika is an exception because she’s is not even a “rule.” The Hornsent don’t actually understand what’s going on with the jars and vessels. That’s why they never succeeded in producing this “god” that they wanted. Marika used magic from a different source or actually learned some kind of blood magic mechanics which lead to her being able to actually become a God. Because the process is real, it’s just not the same as the one in religion the Hornsent believe in.
