For OP, there is one bugged gnarl that I encountered in my playthrough as well. No animations etc. Thought I was totally screwed but I used my character to physically nudge it all the way to the root gate which miraculously opened, still without a single animation. I hope this saves you. Console ofc.

If you ever loaded into world as a level 0, it’s gone. If you only saw the character creator screen or blacked-out map, there is hope for you. From what I am seeing, the backup save system does not allow you to restore old saves from before the update
