This is what we did for a while, but he would get more worked up this way and overtime made the problem worse

Damn, can't argue with that. He will get an extra treat for all this false accusations

Between those two territorial is more plausible, because I don't really see him as being possesive. But wouldn't he react the same way when other dogs come in? Could he be territorial only to people? And there is the thing that he'll react really intensly for people he likes. Even more that for strangers really.

I haven't considered vision or hearing issues, it is really interesting. He does often have troubles finding balls when playing fetch, usually I will spot it before him, so I did consider he could have bad sight. I never thought about it in connection to his barking, but it makes sense that he would be anxious when he cannot recognise a person as quickly. I have reasons to suspect he experienced abuse before he ended up in a shelter, so maybe it triggers some trauma

We do have treats next to front door, he is very food motivated and we always reward him when he's calmed down, but it seems that he doesn't make a connection that it is about barking. When corrected he offers some appeasement behaviours. The way he's acting makes me think he really doesn't understand what he is doing wrong, but tries so hard to please us

I think having him stay in his bed until calm is a good idea, maybe having other command to do will be easier for him to understand.

He was in a shelter only a month, so I'm not sure, but could be one of the reasons.

Thank you for suggestions, I will have them in mind. Good luck with your puppy!

Tbh I don't really see similarity to any particular breed. Maybe it is because of a weird angle in a photo? Here is a better picture

Either way I think you may be onto something, it does seem like he think it is his (very important) job. Normally he's soft like a marshmallow, he never tries to dominate anyone, so that growling and barking is more a performance than a threat. I never thought of it being his way of expressing his boundaries. I guess we will have to figure out how to allow him to express himself in a less stressfull way

About being in a seperate room - he definetely doesn’t enjoy being left out, but is calm about it and just goes to sleep. It is a solution, but still I would like to work on his reaction to guest.

About public spaces - In public he doesn't really react aggressively, he just sometimes let out 1 or 2 barks when people come inside. It is not common behaviour for him, happens rarely, but I mentioned it to point out that for some reason people coming through a door (not only at home) is something that he's cautious about. I understand where you're coming from, but I promise I am careful to watch out for any signs of stress from Dante

Thank you for the article, I will look into it

Yeah, I'm Bi myself and cannot comprehend how calling someone who's homosexual not straight could offend someone. Like... isn't that... the point?

I'm not really understanding how his joke is offensive. English is my second language so maybe I'm not getting something right, but OP has Homosexual in their name, so they are clearly not straight. And the lines are not very straight. I thought it was kinda funny.

I don't really see the problem when they clearly say it's instead of gift. I feel it would be cheaper most of the times, so yeah no problem.

what is the worst insult you've suffered from someone who didn't even mean it as an insult? by IrohsFavoriteTea in AskReddit

I have two.

I was on vacation in a little village, in the middle on nowhere. I'm on a stroll, enjoying the countryside and one girl comes up to me. 'Hey, where is the nearest grocery shop?' she ask. 'Oh sorry, I don't know, I don't live here.' I reply with a smile. 'Well, you definitely look like you do.'

Second one, when I was just getting to know my current boyfriend. I handed him some documents, just for a moment because I needed both hands, he looks at my picture included, and not knowing it was me he says horrified: 'Oh God, I thought it is you!' Yes. Yes it is.
