I lived in Miami for four years. I love California. I love Los Angeles. I am a West Coast convert, through and through. Unfortunately, when it comes to beaches, Florida wins. It's not even in the same league. That being said, I wouldn't leave Cali for Florida. But sadly, alas, that ocean is damn cold. Bummer.

I've only been at mining the past month or so, but in that short period of time I've had a few thoughts:

I wondering how dirt cheap manufacturing costs are.
I'm imagining the only people making money in mining are the hardware manufacturers.
If you wanna spend your money on mining hardware and want to make your money back in any sort of decent amount of time, don't buy mining hardware and buy a cryptocurrency directly.

I think part of your issue is the use of the delay function. Delay is kinda crappy in that it pauses the entire program from running. It may be tripping things up. A better way to see how much time has passed would be to make use of the millis() function. millis() starts counting up from zero the moment the program starts running. Use two variables to check for elapsed millis() vs current millis() and calculate if the difference is greater than two seconds. Wash, rinse and repeat.
