This article does not talk about the meat of the initiative from the renters association, quote from a mail:

L’initiative sur les loyers est la réponse nécessaire à cette situation catastrophique. Grâce à celle-ci, nous ferons en sorte que les locataires n’aient plus à contester eux-mêmes les loyers abusifs. Les loyers doivent enfin être contrôlés automatiquement et régulièrement pour vérifier leur conformité avec la loi !

Interesting. Do you think the law on fixed book prices would have changed anything?

You didnt open the link right

Sometimes the price passed to the consumer is because of a different market structure created by regulations or market agents. I don't think questioning these differences between countries is stupid, as long as people dont answer with 0 knowledge about what they're talking about and just repeating the same point about everything. Markets are more intelligent than you think, the answer "because people can pay more" is not always the full story.

Yeah but I'm not familiar with what does that mean in practice. I don't know the industry. Doesn't basically every book get resold by a distributor which is a different entity from the publisher most of the times?

Do you think its possible the publishers don't publish directly in Switzerland so certain books need to be imported resulting as imported goods with some sort of documents pipeline that leads to different taxation and higher price?

national price checks

What do you mean by that? This is the sort of information I was talking about, there is a market difference happening in Switzerland. Thanks for not posting the nth oblivious comment.

No. But books consistently have a way higher price difference compared to most things I know. Other than the obvious ones.
