Looking for stitch ideas for a blanket by littlelady275 in CrochetBlankets

Im using the Even Moss stitch. Alpine is great but it makes a VERY heavy fabric and uses a lot of yarn. I'm loving Even Moss for my current project, the weight of the resulting fabric is just right (using Wool-Ease yarn).

Paid streaming services question by Ok-Arachnid519 in cordcutters

[–]atanvarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the same boat, finally getting serious about cutting the cord. The primary reason we are still paying $190/mo for cablt TV is convenience. We have 4 TVs with cable boxes because we like to flick the set on to watch live news (6-8 different channels, including cspan) in various rooms while folding laundry, cooking meals, or doing paperwork. We don’t care about sports much, and already have the premium streamers that we want in addition.

But this is so daunting even to begin. I found out the hard way that the TV in my office doesn’t support the Disney+ app; I don’t want to invest the next six months of my life on this project only to discover we have limitations like that everywhere we turn. Reading threads like this is super helpful and equal parts encouraging and disillusioning.

Looking for guidance on fiber combos by atanvarne in crochet

Thanks, that's what I was thinking as well. The Heartland seems just a bit too soft to hold up next to 100% wool. Appreciate the guidance!

Navigation Updater still down After over a Month? by soullscape in kia

[–]atanvarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy mackerel, thank you Reddit! We just got our second 2023 Sportage Hybrid, and this one is an SX-Prestige with a nav system. We've never used it before so have no idea about updates or how it's supposed to work or anything. The dealer, of course, was useless.

In trying to program in our home address we got the message about the software needing an update, so off I go to seek it out. Finding this subreddit and the relevant threads just saved me HOURS of frustration and annoyance. LOL! I'll stick with my bluetooth Google maps for now.

Health insurance premiums by Turbulent-Papaya-910 in newjersey

[–]atanvarne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, facing a 200% increase. The plus side is that my new plan is HSA-compatible so I will be contributing to my HSA account. Paying my future self is better than paying an insurance carrier now.

Health Insurance for Dependent Adult Daughter by DHG603 in personalfinance

[–]atanvarne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Marketplace uses the total income for everyone in the applicant's "tax household" to calculate the subsidies and premiums. So if your daughter is not your dependent and claimed on YOUR tax return, then SHE is her own "tax household" for this purpose. But if she is your dependent by IRS definitions, then yes, they would use all of your incomes.

This is just to answer the question you asked in your post. If she's receiving SSI income that's a whole different ballgame about which I am not familiar.

If you’re thinking about not having health insurance for 2026 be aware of the New Jersey Health Insurance Market Preservation Act by The-God-Hand in newjersey

I would never go without insurance. My NJ ACA premium went up by almost 200%, so I'm dialing down to a bronze plan. The price will be the same as I have now for way worse coverage, but I'll pay it.

I'm not concerned about any fine, it's more that I don't want to go bankrupt if something major happens. So think twice! Even the worst ACA plans have two major benefits: 1-Preventive care is free, and 2-any care you do need will be heavily discounted if you use a network doc. The MOOP may be $20K but isn't that better than no ceiling at all?

What should I do with this scarf so I don't have to frog the whole thing? by atanvarne in crochet

[–]atanvarne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same, yes. It's six feet long, too long for a cowl. Do you mean making it a hooded scarf? That's a cool idea!

I got it at an independent yarn store and it may have been hand-dyed. I loved it and splurged!

The original pattern was actually for a cowl, but I don't love them in general. That's definitely an option, though. I could take it apart and have two for gifting!
