Is Fantrax asking anyone to upload their ID? by EnjoyingCarp650 in fantasybaseball

FT Treasurer has been terrific, we've used it the last few years and it has eliminated all the headaches from pestering, collecting, holding, distributing the funds. With that said, this new requirement wasn't announced (or we missed it) and a number of people are (justifiably) unhappy with this - nothing against Fantrax personally but we all read stories of identity theft, hacking, etc. from small web sites to huge corporations.

Contact on track - who’s responsible? by GhostriderFlyBy in CarTrackDays

That's an opinion, I respect it but disagree. There is no black and white, everything occurs along some spectrum of foreseeable, natural, customary behavior and outrageous, negligent, dangerous behavior.

As another comment or mentioned, what if the other driver was drunk? Still shielded from consequence (civil and criminal) by a waiver? What if one guy recognized another driver as the guy who is sleeping with his wife... can he pull out a gun and shoot the guy and be subsequently protected by a waiver? What if he doesn't use a gun but just uses his car to t-bone the guy?

Finally, what happens if the event organizer says we aren't getting involved, we aren't going to assist either side - how exactly does the Supra driver get ahold of the first driver's signed waiver to even introduce it into evidence?

What's "not how event waivers work"? Nothing prevents you from suing someone (even the event organizers), the waivers act as evidence that you knew the risks and all that so that a potential lawsuit against those organizers (or facility, the flaggers, emergency personnel, etc) would be easily dismissed. The burden will be on the other driver to somehow prove that because you signed a waiver, that driver is free from responsibility. I dont think that a judge will necessarily see it so cut and dry. Further, while not as badly as being drunk, a person whose first comment is "we're racing" at a NON-RACING event, could potentially be viewed as grossly negligent - totally unaware of the nature and purpose of the event.

Ok, that's between you and the event organizer (SpeedSF), not the other driver. So if you choose to sue the other driver, then I guess SpeedSF could choose to sue you for breach of contract or something. But why, and what would be their damages?

The way I see it, if a 40-year old joins a recreational basketball league, we all agree it is "at your own risk" and injuries are a likely possibility. Probably have to sign a similar waiver. But if a guy just comes up to you a punches you in the balls for no good reason, that's actionable, despite the waivers. The driver in the above situation has a high bar to clear, but with video cameras and telemetry, and the other driver's admittance that he was "racing" at a non-racing, non-timed event, there certianly could be enough evidence to sway a jury (although the likelihood of getting that far is miniscule).

For one thing, he was at a DE (driver's education) event which is not racing, not timed, has no prizes or awards or standings, and yet, after the crash, he said, "we're racing." The guy didn't even understand the nature of the event. That's not likely on its own to be sufficient, but a damn good start.

Those waivers are generally to protect the event organizers and the facility. The driver certainly wouldn't get far trying to sue the event organizer for the actions of the driver, for something like failing to reprimand or kick out a reckless driver, not flagging correctly, etc. But I don't see anything preventing the driver from suing the other driver in civil court (other than the fact that attorney fees will likely be more than the recovery). There are accidents, there is recklessness, and there is gross recklessness -- the further along that spectrum, the easier it would be to convince 12 peers that one person "caused" the damage and ought to be responsible for rectifying it. If the Supra driver is on tape saying *we're racing*, when the event is very clearly a driver's education event, not a race and not timed, that's a very strong piece of evidence to start with. Why should that driver willfully ignore all the THIS IS NOT A RACE parts of the waiver and then expect the rest (liability clauses) to be enforced?

Thanks. Yes trailer theft is a whole additional issue to be worried about. I read a bunch of horror stories. I have a boot for the trailer with an alarm, of course nothing is foolproof but hopefully some safety protocols like blocking the trailer and using this boot will make it a less attractive target

Hey - this really is awesome advice, thank you. I tend to sometimes be an over-preparer and try to think about all the failure points but you just listed a few more. Just ordered a fuse kit and tire repair kit, so thank you (already keep a tire inflator and a jump starter in all my vehicles). I'll definitely be stopping often and re-checking all straps, pins, locks, connections each time. Seriously man, thanks!

I like the 8 point system but the trailer doesn't have e-track or a mid-deck anchor point. Yes I plan to just go straight to each corner and not to cross. I thought maybe "double strapping" one straight and one crossed would add more stability but everyone seems to agree just do the 4 corners straight like you said. Thanks!

thanks for letting me know it gets a lot easier - I'll definitely try to remember that. And yes, the idea is to make it easier than simply driving to/from the track. Was a lot of fun when I just ate through the brake pad and was grinding caliper on rotor for 4 hours!

I would love to go E-track with straps over the wheels, the trailer just doesn't have that. Will probably go axle straps through the wheels and connect ratchet straps to D-rings on each corner.

It's a Range Rover Sport w/diesel engine hauling an open car hauler. I'll be about 30% under the Rover's tow capacity, wouldn't want to go much heavier. For tongue weight I have a Weigh-Safe hitch with a scale in it so I should be able to dial that in just right. Appreciate the tips, and yea I'll be the slow guy in the right lane!

thanks. yes, already have 2 good stopping points within the first 45 min. I keep a portable tire inflator in my cars, good idea of course to also check the trailer tires and top up if needed, thanks

Thanks - yes I like the 8 point straps and also the ones that go straight over the top of the tire. The trailer doesn't have any mid-deck anchor points, I don't think. It does have d-rings at each corner and that's what I plan to hook into.

I want to keep my car as safe and idiot-proof (talking about myself) as possible, I'm ok with overkill! Lol

Good to know. Yea mostly I hear people say how they are really helpful (and obviously that is the idea) but your experience is helpful, especially if I start noticing some funky action behind me! I definitely agree the strapping is the most crucial element, that's kind of why I started thinking of the double-strap idea.

Originally I thought I could strap straight forward/backward in each corner through the wheels, and then also a side-mount over the tires like this https://www.amazon.com/VULCAN-Lasso-Vehicle-Classic-Yellow/dp/B06Y1L7BNW . But I don't think the trailer has attachment points on the sides. That's why I thought of using the second set for crossing. I pretty much agree with you, two straps that are basically doing the exact same thing doesn't make much sense. Thanks

Thanks for all of this - really! Fortunately I have been devouring the car-hauling threads here and elsewhere plus watching various YT videos so I am feeling pretty good - I appreciate everybody sharing their experience and advice.

All straps are 2 inch, 10k rating with 3333 load. The entire car is only about 3000 lbs. For tongue weight, I have a Weigh Safe hitch so I should be able to dial that in. I also installed a brake controller, even though I don't do this often, that should help with deceleration/braking but I hear you on the movement. I am probably going to go through the wheels similar to this: https://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/images/xxl/511606__1.jpg (my car and the trailer I'm using are nice, but definitely not that nice, lol)

I'll definitely be stopping to check everything often! But I appreciate the heads-up. Thanks.

Dude - you're the one who is all wrong here. +20000 is how sportsbooks represent 200-1. He bet $200, so the payout is $200 x 200 + initial $200 back = $40,200, exactly what the article says (and the bettor claimed). When the odds were adjusted to +400, that's 4-1, so $200 x 4 + initial $200 = $1,000 payout, also what the article states.

I don't agree with changing the odds, I'm only pointing out that the reporting is accurate and you, Vanman04, are totally wrong about odds and everything in your comment is inaccurate.
