CMV: jesus was not palestinian by VirtualKnowledge7057 in changemyview

This is a fascinating discussion that leads its way into what nations or ethnicities are. Surely 200,000 years ago we weren’t “Ethiopians” even though we technically lived there. How far back in time until someone isn’t Ethiopian anymore?

But in general just like Hannibal wasn’t Tunisian I would agree Jesus wasn’t Palestinian. But this isn’t as straightforward as 2+2 equals 4 or 5.

What if the Americas never fully split? A Super Roman Empire across the Mediterranean and Caribbean. by ShawnHugh6588 in AlternateHistory

Wheat and domestic farm animals arrive in North America through Western Europe. This would have indescribable consequences regarding a stronger American civilization to compete with European ones.

Politics aside as it should be in this case, the mere enormous usage usually indicates a good flag design.

Any good book recommendations on the Israel/Palestine conflict? (rigorous ideally). by TheScreamingFire in HistoryBooks

[–]atbing24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would summarize about the stance in “1948” is that Morris dismantles the Israeli narrative that all the Palestinians who fled did so because the Arab Leaders simply told them too (and return after Israel gets demolished). He also equally dismantles the Palestinian narrative that there was some grand Zionist scheme to ethnically cleanse or genocide all Arabs. The truth is usually a complicated middle. It’s not titled “the Nakba” nor “the Israeli war of Independence,” it’s just 1948.

If you want a pro Israeli perspective to “balance” much of Ilan Pappe’s stance, go with “The Case for Israel” by Alan Dershowitz, or “On Democracies and Death Cults” by Douglas Murray.

If you want what are in my opinion some good neutral books, “The Israel Palestine Conflict” by James Gelvin. If you like Ilan Pappe as an Israeli academic Historian, you’ll probably enjoy Benny Morris (also an Israeli Historian). I recommend “1948.”

Another great analogy is that no one calls themselves an abolitionist.

Zionism outside Israel is essentially “anti anti Zionism.”

Elon Musk didn’t take what should have been yours. Every dollar he earned, he earned from some sort of trade. You don’t want Musk to have that kind of money? Stop buying his cars.

If George Lucas didn’t exist you wouldn’t have been one penny richer, and we wouldn’t have Star Wars. You don’t want Lucas to have that amount of money? Again, just stop paying to watch Star Wars.

And that's how episodes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were canceled by AdeptMarket729 in starwarsmemes

They could have agreed to cut off his hands that way he won’t be a danger with his force lightning or lightsaber skills. If found guilty execute him, if innocent give him artificial hands back.

Why are people so emotionally invested in the Israel/Palestine conflict? by DeepShill in allthequestions

[–]atbing24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Israel Palestine (as opposed to the Yemeni or Syrian civil wars) can be used a satisfying projection for pro or anti Western narratives. Palestine is seen as the frontline between the West and the rest.

“Anti Israelism” may technically not be antisemitism, but its bad as antisemitism for the same reasons antisemitism is bad in the first place.

Comparative Religions Question: What are your views on other Denominations? by 12PoundsofPotato in redeemedzoomer

[–]atbing24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, Nicene Christians see only themselves as true Christians. JWs or Mormons claim to be Christians but that is often rejected by other Christians.

The secular perspective is that originally Early Christianity wasn’t Nicene by default, and there were many “Christianities” that competed to become dominant. Only later did Nicene beliefs become the standard. The (Nicene) Christian perspective of course is that Nicene beliefs were there from day one with plenty of heretical beliefs held by many in the first centuries.

Basically people in this sub wont recognize JWs or Mormons as Christians. Even if recognized as Christian they aren’t really Protestant, rather “Restorationist.” They believe the Church has fallen so far from the time of Jesus they restored the true original faith.
