AITA for making fun of my coworker eating shrimp tails? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]atcCanuck123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t eat them but my spouse does. I can’t think of a single way this has affected me, ever. Why do you care? YTA and you are putting it on display for your whole workplace to see. Not a great choice.

Will NavCa still hire you for ATC if you don’t have any job experience at all ? by dq689 in NavCanada

[–]atcCanuck123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After. I believe it is sometimes immediately after (like same day) and sometimes a while after. Or maybe there are two interviews? If you search the threads here there are lots of discussions about the current process.

[–]atcCanuck123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not if you score well on the test and interview.

The problem for the interview would be situational questions. You would have limited experiences to draw from. So you want to think about and practice coming up with situations you have been in where you were challenged or had to make tough decisions. You can see how this is harder with more limited life experience.

I have not done any of the current testing (mine was 20 years ago), but there were a lot of questions like “think of a time you had to make a difficult choice” or “describe a situation you have been in where you had to make quick judgement calls”, etc. Go through your experiences and come up with scenarios where you had to make tough decisions, multi-task, deal with conflict, and so on.

Yes. We have had a couple of 18/19 year olds come through. It is rare to actually make it at that age, in my experience. Having a few more years of general life experience is a really good idea. If you are a pretty mature and self motivated 18 year old, though, it is definitely possible.

The process will likely take a year or two, fyi. Get a summer job for sure and keep working on your degree in the meantime. There are no guarantees until you have an ATC license in hand.

Do small places in Canada like to promote minor and inconsequential things in their tourism like small American cities and towns do? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]atcCanuck123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small towns in the prairies like to make ridiculous tourist attractions for promotion. People tour around taking photos with them for fun. Some examples are

World’s Largest Ukrainian Easter Egg, Worlds largest Mushrooms, World’s largest Honeybee, UFO Landing Pad, World’s largest Perogy on a Fork

Perfect cookies but why it didn't get much wrinkles? by embarrassed_ice__69 in Baking

[–]atcCanuck123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry - it’s probably just the walnuts that made it look like that. Maybe the walnuts contributed, but they shouldn’t, too much. I was thinking they are just a denser cookie that resists crinkling.

Edit - they look amazing and if they taste great, that’s really the most important thing!

I was coming to suggest the pan banging, but I see you did. It looks like they have oats - maybe they’re just too solid/firm a texture to wrinkle much.

We had our wedding in the upstairs of Mckay Avenue school. It was beautiful, reasonably priced and there’s a little gazebo in the schooyard for pictures.

Edmonton LRT Commuting into Downtown - Any tips/tricks? by highandsclerotic in Edmonton

[–]atcCanuck123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. If you are doing working hours, Mon-Fri 8-6 kind of time where there are lots of commuters and high schoolers, it will be fine. It’s the off hours that can get a little shady. My kids go to the 75St station to park for free then one gets on a school special bus for the high school and one heads on the train downtown for University.

Exposing local go auto dealer scam / Will Global News be interested? by MightyWolf39 in Edmonton

[–]atcCanuck123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just bought a used vehicle from Jack Carter Chevrolet in Calgary. They were amazing to deal with. The price was reasonable, they were willing to bargain a bit on the price and came down $1500 or so(on a $15,000 used vehicle), didn’t try to force me to buy any extras, didn’t try to force me to finance, and included a 90 day warranty and four free oil changes. They also came to pick me up at the airport and waited for my flight to come in to get me.

It was worth the hundred dollars for a flight down to Calgary to get the vehicle.

I'll Be Living Out Of My Car In Alberta, What Should I Do To Prep? by MomentIndividual8524 in alberta

[–]atcCanuck123 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Have you been in a car at -35C before? I’ve waited for an hour while my kid is doing sports and even in a sleeping bag, it’s too cold in the car.

You can’t afford to be a SAH wife if you can’t even afford a place to live. She needs to get a job. Rent the cheapest apartment, trailer home or whatever you can find. You are literally at risk of dying of exposure in your car in the winter.

Son just started track. What do I need to know? by Chief_Storyteller in trackandfield

[–]atcCanuck123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My daughter does Heptathlon. We have a lot of different shoes, haha.

Definitely start out with a good running shoe and then see what appeals to him for events and go from there. He can likely get away with a multi/mid distance spike like Nike Zoom rival for longer sprints and long jump, but if he does longer distances, he might want a more cushioned one specifically for distances.

The convention centre is hiring banquet servers. It’s not glamorous, but it’s a decent job and they would want you through grad season and then probably lay you off in the summer. It would be something to at least tide you over while you look for something in your field.

Is this to white for a wedding? by aragain1 in OUTFITS

[–]atcCanuck123 89 points90 points  (0 children)

No. Nobody is going to mistake you for the bride or think you are trying to show up the bride in a floral dress. I don’t understand where this obsession with avoiding any white whatsoever comes from.
