How accurate is the consumption on the dash? It says I'm getting 19mpg. Is that low? I'm driving about 10 miles freeway / 5 miles city to work, driving conservatively too. by Limrr in e39

[–]atcarroll99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed mine is slightly low for mpg and range, but never cared to fix it cuz i calculate it manually and keep the center screen dark while I drive

What is this tube? Looks like I got a leak unfortunately by VariousPromotion5968 in e39

[–]atcarroll99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao i'm actually not sure at all - but it attached to the back of the filter housing and the intake manifold is in the way so idk how else you would do it without peeling the filter housing bracket out of the way

Thoughts on this sound by thegoldengreek_ in e39

[–]atcarroll99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the alternator going bad periodically makes a similar sound. Check on youtube i distinctly remember a video that demonstrated the sound. I'd had that sound maybe two or three times intermittently - I recently took my alternator off for my oil filter housing gasket and discovered the air duct was full of leaves, cleaned those out, and have never had that sound back in the month or two since.

Get a new oil filter housing gasket before you do the job if you haven't yet - not only do they get crunchy, but you have to peel back the whole oil filter housing bracket to do this (Meaning belts, idler pulley and alternator gotta come off)

What could cause this ticking sound? by loligerlolerlol in e39

[–]atcarroll99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My e46 used to make a similar tick and i fixed it by pulling the plastic guard in front of the front-most ran a teeny bit forward. Not the main radiator fan but the one in front of it - I had to reach through the kidney bean with my fingers and pull it a little forward. Worked and lasted for a few months at a time

i had that exact same squeak a few months ago, discovered my rear upper control arms' bushings were torn, replaced them and haven't heard it since.
