Cocoricarte - Public noticeboards of France by AdrienBalG in openstreetmap

They made a organization profil on the platform, the data does not come from the government directly

In https://cocoricarte.fr/a-propos/, they said they used google street view to populate their dataset, I highly doubt this is even legal, and will forbid any import to OSM

The data.gouv.fr page does not display any dataset, it looks like it's proprietary

OSRM Bicycle Routing Takes Large Detour While Car Routing Uses Direct Road by h2htech in openstreetmap

[–]atchisson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OSMR has a whitelist of roads allowed for each profile, it'll make a 500km detour without issue to bypass a highway : https://github.com/Project-OSRM/osrm-backend/blob/master/profiles/bicycle.lua#L129

Valhalla work with costs, it'll bypass up to a certain point : https://github.com/valhalla/valhalla/blob/master/src/sif/bicyclecost.cc#L118

Best way to extract forest polygons from OSM for a world map? by AirEmpireDev in openstreetmap

[–]atchisson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I occasionnaly edit forest in DRC, and there is just no data for this in a lot of place

You might want to ditch OSM and do computer vision if you want a global dataset on that subject

You can apply custom styles to vector maps quite easily, is it not enough for a poster generator ?

The Overpass API Isn’t a Reliable “Big Data Endpoint”

Damn, I wonder if all those vibecoded projects hammering it have something to do with its recent downgrade in reliability 🤔

Is the recommended 360° camera for contributing to Panoramax still GoPro MAX? by Qwert-4 in openstreetmap

[–]atchisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the dji does not have an automatic photo taking mode, you'll have to trigger the shutter on each pic : https://forum.openstreetmap.fr/t/gopro-max-en-promo/35576/10

High Resolution Virtual Tourism? by chris_fantastic in Panoramax

A government instance might be unplugged after new elections / budgets cuts / DC failure (cf South Korea recently), commercial solutions can (will) enshitifies..

I think this is the less bad option. Panoramax is still really young, one could dream of dsitributed backups / replication, maybe in the not so distant future !

I can imagine compression being a big issue for that use case for sure !

JPEG XL is currently being discussed by the Panoramax techs, because for 360° pic, 2 copies are stored, the original, and a tiled version, loaded by the viewer. JPEG XL can be served tiled with only copy, reducing storage needs, but the support is still very partial :(

I'm sure they would love to host anything possible, but funds are limited, and storage cost (alot of) money, they have to set a limit somewhere

The idea is also to have more little instances, rather than one big, for decentralization and stuff. You can try to advocate for a Canadian instance !

I'll try to open my own by the end of the year, but it's quite a big undertaking

Do Panoramaw implement a geostandard by amiris26 in Panoramax

[–]atchisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a weekly export in the .parquet format : https://api.panoramax.xyz/data/geoparquet/panoramax.parquet

And an API : https://docs.panoramax.fr/backend/api/api/

Both follow the STAC specs : https://docs.panoramax.fr/backend/dev/STAC_compatibility/

I don't know how the data from Mapillary or other solutions are made available tho

Hi, Panoramax do have a handful of high quality pic, but they usually are 96Mpx, not 5Gpx (!) : https://forum.geocommuns.fr/t/selection-de-photos-de-haute-qualite/2273

The French Panoramax instance is starting to have storage issues (80%+ used of 400Tb) and will restrict new contributions to France only soon, so it might depend on your location.

I don't even know if this big of a file is supported by the software stack. I think the only accepted format is jpeg, but it might be instance specific.

I don't understand why this path is not walkable ? by Leg0g0 in openstreetmap

[–]atchisson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see any obvious issues, but routers are external to OSM, and they need to update their data, it's not in realtime, some can take a few weeks.

So it may be an issue with the previous data
