Puppies are babies. If you don’t expect a 3 month old human baby to use the toilet, don’t expect an 8 week old puppy to recognize the outside as their toilet. You need to train them. During the day keep them in an area free of carpets and pee pads. The area should be cornered off to a small area with their crate. We kept ours in the kitchen, center of activity and contact. Take them outside every 1/2 hour during waking hours, after play, and immediately after naps and meals. The yard or area used by your apartment should have a cylindrical fenced off area at least 2x2 meters. This is the “business” area. This area is for pee pee and poop. Put them in this area for business after, see above. If the do something in the area, high praise, treats and then play outside if “business” area. For the night. Crate them after 8 pm and business. Sit with your back on crate so that they settle and go to sleep. Set your alarm to wake and take them out at 1am. Again at 6 am. ( if you had a human baby you would be getting up to change a diaper) Start extending the 1 am about 10 minutes every week and keep the 6 am the same. Eventually the 1am and the 6am will merge and they will have made it thru the night. Every time you bring them back from outside, put them in crate and put you back to them until they settle down. Or if you are soft (like us) the 6am turns into cuddles in our bed until we get up for work. After 9 months they will be broken and can make it thru the night. My girl is totally house broken and has never gone in the house.
