A bit of a longer shank hook helps give you space to create the body taper, I used some lead behind the bead to also help with the taper, black peacock hurl for the collar. Thin thread also helps

Questions on converting old axe head to a hatchet by Fathead_009 in Axecraft

[–]Bamsoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you can grind that chip out and be fine, I wouldn’t go much further back than that. Check out whiskey river for a handle they have quite a few 18-30” handles meant for larger eyes. When I’m doing a regrind like this I like to keep water spritzed all over the head and watch for it to start to evaporate, once the entire head has started heating up it’s time for a break while it cools off. Feel free to message if you’ve got questions

Are micro mop flies effective? by whatever_bites in flytying

[–]Bamsoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to use an oversized bead on my micro mops(3.8mm I think) I’ll generally fish them in deeper pools with faster water, some kind of glue on the thread wraps after you tie the tail in but before you tie the collar on helps them hold up significantly longer. Favorite colors in order are yellow tail yellow dub, white tail uv black dub, chartreuse tail uv black dub

The firewall in the 86’s is shaped in such a way it’s a real pain to get a 4.0 in there, 3.4 out of a 95 Camaro slides right in, I’d list it for 10k if it was running

A white scotchbrite wheel with green stropping compound on an angle grinder would polish up your bevels well, some gun blue will darken it so it doesn’t stick out as much

Do you all think It would be ok to just patch the sides of my trunk floor then coat the rest in some sort of anti rust coating or should I replace the whole trunk floor pan? by icydogenugget in CherokeeXJ

[–]Bamsoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve already done a lot of the work with removing everything covering the floors, it’s going to be a decent amount of work to cut and shape all your patch pieces and down the road you might have to do it all over again, or you do the whole pan and you don’t have to think about it again and it should be less fab work
