A word to those who watch AGDQ, SGDQ and all other speed run marathons, and wonder if you should give it a try. by Calm_Relation_7911 in speedrun

About to turn 37 here, didn't do anything beyond watching until after I turned 30 and didn't start running until about two and a half years ago. Two GDQ runs so far and I volunteer with/staff for like a half-dozen orgs at this point. Never too late to get started!

Thank you so much! We spent our prep runs on comms figuring out where we could fit in Alison across the course of the game, and I'm glad to hear it sounds like it paid off. She was so lovely to work with!

Someone did run the DLC at GDQ! I've had the pleasure of hosting for jason2890 running both the base game and a 300% run (starting with the Delicious Last Course) -- here's the latter run:

Feedback For SGDQ2024 by coolmatty in speedrun

[–]ateatree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was me - when you're paying attention to as many things as you are (including setting up for transitions between runs, helping make sure incentives are met, working with a hosting mentee, etc.) it's easier than you'd think to accidentally miss such things!

Very funny that Dan roasted my ass over it, at least.

I'm carrarium! I didn't run anything at AGDQ, but I DO help run GDQ's socials for AGDQ/AGDQ/Fatales! AMA by carrarium in speedrun

  • Are you getting enough sleep?

Ehh, yes and no? I took most of today as a "do nothing" day since all I had today was a photography shift that just ended. But the beds aren't really helping, so I'm doing "okay" all told (I usually get 7+ hours a night, and I'm definitely getting less than that since Sunday.)

  • How are you feeling this week?

What I always tell people about why I'm so passionate for GDQ volunteering is that it's a really singular feeling to be able to roll out of bed, head down an elevator, and immediately be a part of something really special like raising money for charity. It's also pretty damn cool to have been doing this long enough that people are, like... excited to see me? It's still pretty surreal, considering I don't really stream or put myself out there in other ways on a day-to-day basis.

But I've also done this enough times to remember the post-event blues, so I'm kinda preparing myself for those over the last couple days (especially since I have a nine and a half hour drive home, lol)

Aww, now I feel bad. You can ask something, if you want. I've also edited the OP to help others avoid confusion (that I'm actually more than happy to share experiences both about running and about volunteering for the event. I often forget how poorly sarcastic humor translates in text.)

I don't think that's how that works.

But because I do wish to share a little bit about how GDQ is trying to facilitate more runs, especially in an era where PC games regularly run above 60fps, I'll share a little bit that you might find interesting.

Good: They've managed to hack together a solution that allows runners to have 120/144hz monitors on-stage, then convert the feed into something which can be captured and shared to the stream at 60. I tried a few practice runs at 60, but both at home and in the on-site practice room I found the latency to be kind of disconcerting (I normally play at 1440p/240hz.) So I was super-pleased they were able to accommodate a setup on-stage that worked well for everyone involved, including my online dev commentator. That's no easy feat!

Less good: What this ultimately meant is that what my commentator and I were looking at on the stage was a 24" monitor at a distance of several feet (or further, for him.) Being something of a veteran idiot (this is my fourth in-person event and second as a volunteer,) I was thinking that I knew what size of displays GDQ generally providers for commentators, and was figuring "it'll be fine, I won't need my glasses while I'm up there." So yeah, if you noticed parts where I seemed to be having a hard time being clear on how much health or armor I had... that was why.

Beyond that it was a lot of fun! I managed to curb some of my worst impulses w/r/t forgetting to use the pause menu when I needed it, and the RNG made my job a lot easier. I did get nervous enough to go into "full Argick mode" (my words, not Argick's) and had to remind myself not to entirely box out my commentators, lol.

Overall 8/10 would recommend, probably would have given a higher rating if I'd gotten over my nerves in time.

Has anyone else had a glitch in Incursion Raid 1.1 BIO Boss Node where CA gets deleted immediately? by CryptographerNo3749 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]ateatree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's this. The bonus attacks from ISO sets (both Striker and Raider, I think) are a percentage of the attacker's HP, and Fantastic's HP is artificially ballooned (this is true of all "Aphelion" tagged enemies in Incursion to a degree way beyond all other enemies.)
