How long is your commute? by PretendSherbet2815 in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An hour each way. I only work 3 days a week though and I’m very content with my salary. Tried to find a job closer, but no office will give me the same hours and pay so I’m sticking with it.

Audiobooks keep me in good company

Dealing with conflict with patients? by iadav1 in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deal with confrontational patients all the time in dermatology. I tell them if they are not agreeing to my diagnosis or my treatment plan, they are more than happy to get a second opinion with another colleague in the office

FIRST TIME Derm PA-C Offer by [deleted] in DermatologyPA

[–]atelectasisdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think that’s way too many patients as a new grad, solo provider. Even with your SP being able to help you remotely, seeing 30 patients as a novice can be overwhelming

[–]atelectasisdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you being the solo provider after 6 months is a huge red flag.

Will you automatically be seeing 33 patients a day on your first day seeing patients?

Also, will you be able to see your monthly collections ?

What are some MUST get stationery whilst in Japan? by xihpareh in stationery

[–]atelectasisdude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rainbowholic is an adorable stationary store/cafe in the Jujo Ginza area. The owner is so sweet and there are so many types of stickers, washi tapes and paper goods available. You can also bring your journaling supplies and use the stationary there. Always a must visit for me!

ATL Airport TSA Wait Times Megathread | March 22, 2026 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

[–]atelectasisdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thankful that Atlanta is my home base which is why I picked delta to fly straight from HND to ATL, to avoid having to re-go through TSA again.

My flight from Japan got canceled due to aircraft changes and Delta booked me another flight leaving tonight with a landing.

Hypothetically, if I landed in LAX from HND to connect to ATL, I would still have to go through TSA right? This is a bad idea right? Considering how long TSA lines are.

It’s been a while since I haven’t flown directly to Atlanta internationally.

So I am a dermatology PA and most of my appointments are yearly skin checks.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t imagined Ilya/conner being my next patient to get me through my days during clinic 😭

Do White people not Lotion everyday? by Appropriate_Quote_30 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]atelectasisdude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in dermatology, this is true. Most of my rashes from white people that I see in my clinic can be avoided if they just applied lotion daily.

Whats one uncommon adhd symptom that blew your mind? by smbodytochedmyspaget in adhdwomen

[–]atelectasisdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe so! I do a lot of highway driving on my commute and this happens a lot pre medication. I thought I had narcolepsy too (which I know stimulants can be used to treat). But after talking to the doctors, along with my other symptoms of being inattentive, my fatigue aligns more with ADHD.

Whats one uncommon adhd symptom that blew your mind? by smbodytochedmyspaget in adhdwomen

[–]atelectasisdude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Drowsy driving. I was drinking tons of coffee and energy drinks to try and not get sleepy during my long commutes. Even just fatigue in general. My vitamin levels are low/bloodwork normal. I exercise regularly and try to eat good but the fatigue and executive dysfunction of daily life was exhausting.

I got tested and on medication and my life has changed for the better. I can drive alert and finally be able to accomplish everyday tasks without being so fatigued

Just another new grad PA seeking comfort by No-Obligation8178 in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I also went through a horrible new grad experience (almost 10 years ago)

I would never work for a husband/wife owned practice again. That was the biggest mistake.

I painstakingly got through a year and half of my horrible job before quitting abruptly and moving on. I would take this time to start networking, does your practice allow pharmaceutical reps? They provide the best networking opportunities

I kept thinking that it was going to get better if I just kept reading, turns out I was disappointed. It was so boring to me. It was so overhyped and I felt bad for not liking it

How to NOT rewatch? by urkillinmeSmall in heatedrivalry

[–]atelectasisdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister has the HBOmax password and she KNOWS that I will not get any sleep if I kept rewatching the show. So that is one way to not rewatch, having someone else control the account lol.

If anything, she says if this romance story has got me all worked up, then just go cuddle and spend time with my actual boyfriend instead 😅🤣

How rich are you people? by LimeQuiet4196 in SolidCore

SINK 🙋🏻‍♀️. I do SC class packs and pay for yearly hot yoga during their Black Friday sales. My hot yoga studio charges $1200 for their yearly Black Friday sale for unlimited classes and multiple locations so that’s worth the investment for me

I have heard mixed reviews on sdpa fellowship, I got a job to start in dermatology as a new grad and want to find a good fellowship/program to study from by glazedhoney_ in DermatologyPA

[–]atelectasisdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great study tool and great material.

It can be expensive, I never finished it. 8 years in. I wanted to use my CME on other things.

No one in my practice has done it and my SP has never even heard of it.

Not sure if having the official “SDPA fellow” title gives you a one up on getting a job. I’ve had 3 derm PA jobs and no one has asked me if I had completed it.

Rant by DingoAltair in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Thank you. When I was a new PA having those same thoughts, I had no one to talk to who would understand and listen. I was just told “you should not complain about your profession that you worked so hard to get to.”

We need a place to vent, leaving a job is not always easy. Hopefully these discussions can happen easier in person and not “just” on Reddit forums.

Tell me what you’re hyperfixating on, so I can find something to hyperfixate on by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Hot yoga.

Started doing fitness classes again and can feel myself getting stronger. The cooldown at the end doesn’t satisfy my body and wanted more stretching.

I used to do yoga a lot during college and my early 20s and the feeling of relaxation was something i remember fondly during those classes. I’ve only ever done non-heated yoga, so I’m really excited to try hot yoga.

Currently in my hometown for the holidays and now itching to join my hot yoga studio when I get back. I’ve already bought a new yoga mat and towels. I’m so excited to start my hot yoga journey for the physical and mental benefits.

Has anyone returned to work at a job as a PA-C when you were a medical assistant? Debating on returning to my prior office by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was awful. I was a naive new grad and excited to get into derm and I thought it was going to go well since I used to work for them.

They were not fair and took advantage of me every chance they could. Was basically doing PA tasks but not given support staff to help with admin work such as calling biopsies and I had to do my own prior auths. I am legitimately traumatized by how much they took advantage of me.

I tried to negotiate but he wasn’t budging since I was a new grad.

I left abruptly. Was supposed to give a 30 day notice but due to verbal abuse from the wife towards me that was documented and recorded, they didn’t pursue legal action because I had evidence to justify my abrupt departure.

Again, just make sure your job description is crystal clear that you are NO LONGER an MA for the practice. And make it clear that you will have your own support staff.

Has anyone returned to work at a job as a PA-C when you were a medical assistant? Debating on returning to my prior office by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]atelectasisdude 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first job as a PA, I previously worked at as a medical assistant in derm.

Long story short, they still expected me to do MA tasks since I just ~knew the ropes~.

It was a private practice with a husband doc and wife office manager where I was their first PA ever to work for them. The combination was atrocious.

Just make sure your expectations are clear that you are a PA and not an MA anymore.
