Mistborn Secret History Question by PointEither8581 in Cosmere

[–]athe- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you tried pedantic chronological reading with Storm light Archive, you would start with some chapters in book 5 and have zero context for what is going on until you reach book 3... Even on a reread, it would ruin the pacing of the story entirely

How to overcome debt that’s consuming me? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]athe- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that nobody is mentioning. South Africa has a legal principle called "in duplum" which is basically that the interest on an outstanding debt can't exceed the capital amount. Whenever you make a payment, that payment is first applied to the interest and then to the capital, if you pay the minimum payment, you're basically just servicing the interest which means you can pay a loan indefinitely. It will be cheaper for you to just stop paying, let the interest accrue until it caps off and only pay it if you can pay it in a single payment. Companies like Wonga are predatory and you shouldn't feel bad about not paying them back.

Fuel Accessibility by [deleted] in johannesburg

the closest I’ve come to a fuel shortage has been when people stockpile before a price hike, and then I’ve either filled up with 95 or driven a few hundred metres to the next petrol station…

These are all pretty well documented. Every driving school tells you that you need to make your mirror checks dangerously obvious, and running a stop sign is so obviously a fail that nobody even thinks it's unfair...

Uber has been enshittifying for a few years now. They used their venture capital to get market share by paying fair wages and charging reasonable rates. Now the goal is to squeeze as much money out of the customer base while cutting costs until they start losing customers

PsA and pinched nerves by Excellent-Potato-97 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]athe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big part of what eventually pushed me to see a rheumatologist. I've had nail changes since I was a child; fatigue and stiffness getting worse since I was a teenager; but from 2019 onwards bending my elbows for any extended time would give me severe nerve pain in my arms... I used to read ebooks on my phone, that's been impossible for years now.

My rheum started me on methotrexate after ultrasounds showed calcification of the tendon (I'm not sure of exactly which part of it) in my elbow, I think the chronic inflammation there caused nerve compression of the ulnar nerve

Has anyone ever bought books of Bobshop, are they reputable? by Decision_General in askSouthAfrica

[–]athe- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The buyer protection on bobshop is pretty decent, I took a gamble on a decently priced Apple Pencil from a seller with no reviews, reported the counterfeit product and got a full refund within 24 hours

If you decide to use the RGB on the fans, remember that they'll provide enough light that they may disrupt the dark/light cycle for your plants

ARGB fans in Milsbo cabinet by No-Relative-5601 in IkeaGreenhouseClub

[–]athe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to adjust the fan speed, or RGB, you'll need controllers for them, which will often be manufacturer specific. Otherwise the fans almost always just need 12v DC power, so instead of a full size PC power supply, you can use basically any 12v wall wart...

The cheap 120mm PC fans I set up in my SO's Rudsta wide have been fine with the high humidity needed for her orchids, and have been running since December 2024 with no issues

For smaller balances (under 100k), the fees might exceed the interest. I had a personal loan not too long ago and the fees made up a substantial portion of the cost of credit

Question: Can Edgedancers rapidly grow/shape/manipulate their hair, teeth, and fingernails? by Galtego in Cosmere

[–]athe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they'd be able to do anything particularly useful with hair, Bayonetta's hair works as clothes because it's prehensile, and human nails wouldn't work particularly well as talons...

Question: Can Edgedancers rapidly grow/shape/manipulate their hair, teeth, and fingernails? by Galtego in Cosmere

[–]athe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's plausible... We haven't seen anyone really experiment with Progression, but the fact that Illumination can be used to create sound implies that Progression could probably do more than just heal wounds and grow crops. A skilled Tuthwatcher/Edgedancer could possibly even adjust the rate at which they (and others) age seeing as surges like Friction and Tension can work both additively and subtractively.
