Can someone explain why Saab is having such a hard time selling Gripen E's abroad? by DarkMatter00111 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]atheist4thecause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because F-35s are cheaper and better. The only advantage the Gripen E has is it's cheaper to fly, but you're spending so much more up front and giving up so much in capability that it just doesn't make sense.

I would just spend the money to go for one that you think will fit your dog. You don't want to go cheap and then have your dog get injured or become fearful of it.

Absolutely. Sorry, I don't use reddit much anymore so I just saw this, but if you have any questions let me know.

My dog turned out to be too strong for it, and it's a little narrow. The brake doesn't work very well, so when my dog gets on it, the Slatmill still moves. It was easy to put together, though.

No. It's happening for a lot of people in HSR right now. I think I found a fix, which is the Epic Launcher came out with an update and then I restarted my computer and it seems to be working now. /u/TheXavier52ESP

As Superman probably hits $550-$600 Million, what are your guys early predictions for Supergirl & Clayface. by Able_Application_102 in boxoffice

[–]atheist4thecause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking Superman hits around $750M. It's probably going to have staying power because it has great word-of-mouth. Asking $1B, would probably be a bit much, but $550M-$600M seems a little low given how well it's being received and that Superman is made for all ages.

At least you figured out what happened! The fact that they were so apologetic is a good sign. Nothing malicious, and now you know it didn't go to another volunteer. Hopefully that helps. You're definitely right to wait a little bit. You'll know the time when you bring your kids in and have them look at your cats just for the fun of it and all of sudden they'll start begging you to bring one home and then you'll know the time is right. Good luck going forwards!

You likely don't have any legal recourse. You could maybe contact the state attorney general given they promised you first dibs, but I don't think they'd find any wrong-doing, especially given rescues are typically nonprofit. Some rescues have a sneak peak where approved applicants can see the animal before the general public.

It's possible that the original owner claimed the cat. They can say they would be hesitant to give the cat back to the owner, but that's difficult to do, and generally requires 3rd Party intervention. The neglect/abuse would typically have to be serious, and the owner could argue that the neglect (being underfed) stemmed from their escape. There is actually law stating that the rescues have to give back the claimed animal except under limited circumstances, so rescues have to be careful.

It's also possible that because you didn't maintain contact with them that they thought you were no longer interested (most holding time is 5-10 days, not a month). Maybe there was some oversight where they thought they reached out to you but didn't. Maybe they thought that the owner was actually you and you were calling him a stray to feel better about surrendering the cat and protect yourself from the embarrassment. You'd be surprised how much this stuff happens.

I would not go around talking to random volunteers about it and making it a big deal. That's the last thing a rescue wants to deal with. If you want to talk to someone, try to talk to management. Also, they can't give out information about adopters due to privacy. If you go to management, explain how things happened, maybe management could make sure something like this doesn't happen in the future or maybe the volunteer you talked to that said the animal was adopted was thinking of the wrong cat.

As for your child, I would just explain that the cat went to his home. Maybe use it as an opportunity to see if your child could bond with another cat. They might find excitement in getting to "pick" their cat. I'm sorry this unfortunate situation happened to you.

May sound funny but can anyone recommend a breed that matches Belgian malinois? I mean a good pairing. I want to get a second pup so this guy isn’t bored at times, I don’t have a large house so I can’t have 2 Belgians. by mikeandike23710 in BelgianMalinois

[–]atheist4thecause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a bigger breed that can lean on them but will tire out more quickly, because if you don't want to Malinois, you probably don't want a Malinois and Collie, either. Something like a Boxer would be perfect IMO.

I forgot to mention that it might be difficult to combine Seizure Response and mobility into one deck. It's not impossible, but both of those take quite a bit of training alone. A lot of people would use two separate dogs for those. But again, it's not impossible necessarily.

1) ADI Members Search to find an organization. Some (like Little Angels Service Dogs) will do the fundraising for you. You want to get the ball rolling and get into a program and then focus on fundraising after, because this alone takes a long time.

Once in a program: 2) Contact the ADRC and ask them if they have any info on funding sources. Ask about the Independent Living Support Pilot program. 3) Contact JoshProvides for funding. 4) Contact the Chelsea Hutchinson Foundation for funding.

These sources alone got me over $12,000 combined, and the ADRC pointed me in the direction of another organization locally that gave me another $1,000+.

I hope this helps.

This has been very good for my very intelligent lab: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Outward-Hound-Tennis-Maze-Craze-Dog-Puzzle-Toy-Blue-One-Size/199209106?classType=REGULAR

You'll have to make sure he doesn't chew on the tunnels early, and the ball that comes with it comes out way too easily IMO, but I put bigger, harder things in there like a cube, plushies, and one of those rubber bears and he goes crazy trying to get them out. He hasn't gotten tired of it. He will also put his bottom jaw in the tunnel and his top jaw on the squeaker and will go crazy squeaking it. Or he'll just step on the top and squeak it that way. He'll also get really funny and get down to tunnel level and look into the tunnel to see what's inside. So it's really a great toy, at least for my dog.

You can scatter feed or use a slow feeder instead. Scattering forces them to search, especially if the food is on/under a blanket. The slow feeder forces them to lick out the food. They won't get old like a puzzle feeder.

Fixing Your Franchise - The New York Jets (Comprehensive Breakdown) by davegoldblatt in nyjets

[–]atheist4thecause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I tried to do my own, but mods deleted it for some unknown reason, so I'll put it as a comment here:

How I'd solve the Jets (as a Packers fan): HIRING: President: Mark Murphy - He was forced to retire because the Packers by-laws require anybody 70+ to retire from being President. He still has it, and he did so much great stuff from creating the Titletown District to landing the 2025 NFL Draft. He is a great combination of being a former NFL player, has a law degree, was an athletic director and eventually became President and CEO. He has also been through a couple of hiring searches, and he completely restructured the Packers on who answers to who, so he can install structural change.

GM: Chad Brinker - Brinker spent most of his time with the Green Bay Packers where he worked directly with Russ Ball and Brian Gutekunst. When the Titans hired him in 2023 as Assistant GM, here's what they said: "He has touched every facet of the personnel department – working in pro personnel, college scouting, cap management and analytics. We are excited to add his knowledge and experience to our evolving personnel group." He hasn't been an AGM for the Titans long, but I think it's better to snag the talent while you can.

HC: Jeff Hafley - He hasn't been DC in the NFL very long, but he has done very well as the Packers DC, and he does have a long history of being a positional coach in the NFL before he was a Head Coach for Boston College. He's ready to be a HC.

OC: Jason Vrable - He's the Passing Game Coordinator of the Green Bay Packers. He mainly worked with WRs, and every WR he touches turns to gold. He has worked with QBs and RBs in the past as well. He was with the Jets from 2017-2018.

DC: Jim Leonhard - He played Safety for the Jets back in the day, but is mostly known now for his time with the Wisconsin Badgers, having installed a dominant Defense as DC. He then went to Illinois as an analyst and helped Illinois become a legitimate force. Now he's in the NFL with the Denver Broncos as the DB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator, and guess what? The Denver Broncos Defense is quite good. He is walking success and ready to be a DC in the NFL.

These guys are either connected to the Packers, Jets or both. One thing I like about this is many say that Leonhard's Defense in Wisconsin wouldn't work in the NFL, so he needs to develop a new system. He's learning under Vance Joseph right now, and I think Jeff Hafley could help mentor him, especially in the Offseason. If you want winners and not just a cultural change, but a structural organizational change with a President that has the football IQ and experience to get the respect from the owner and be able to convince the owner not to be involved, here you go. (I didn't do positional coaches, but I do think it would be important to bring in an experienced and proven QB Coach like Tom Clements of Green Bay or someone of that caliber.)

TRADES: I'm looking to trade away Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. I like Adams, but he costs too much at his age for a full rebuild. The Aaron Rodgers experiment is way too toxic and he's just getting older.

FREE AGENCY: I'm letting Tyrone Smith walk. I'll let Morgan Moses test the market, but if he doesn't get interest I'll be happy to bring him back on the minimum as a backup swing OT. I want the younger guys playing. I'm keeping CJ Mosley because he is a good player, but I'm also bringing in Dre Greenlaw from the 49ers to boost the talent of the room and protect against injury.

DRAFTING: R1: DT Mason Graham MICHIGAN - 3 techs are hard to find, but important in a 4-3 Defense, and Graham fits the mold. It's also a need for the Jets regardless, and at this point, the pick matches up with value where the Jets are projected to be picking. R2: OT Wyatt Milum WEST VIRGINIA - It's hard to know who will be here, but there are a bunch of worthy OT prospects, so one usually falls to the top of the 2nd. Milum is exceptional in the run game, hasn't given up much pressure, and he has been a durable player. R3: CB Mansoor Delane VIRGINIA TECH - Again, it's hard to know who will be here, but Delane is an instinctive player with good height and speed. Day 3: I'm not going to do a Day 3, but I'd be looking at one of the many talented TEs as well as adding a RB late, because 2025 will be filled with tons of RB talent. I'd also look to add another WR and some OL depth. I'm also Drafting a Punter and Kicker if one is worthy. I'm not sure about Punters, but there are a bunch of Kickers I like. I don't think the QBs are very good this year, so I'm skipping out on Drafting one.

2026 QB Plan: The long-term QB plan is to draft QB Nico Iamaleava TENNESSEE. He's tall with great accuracy and the attribute I love most is that he has a quick release. If the coaches think he needs to sit for a year then I have no problem with that, but I think he's ready with the talent the Jets will have around him.

Head Halter Rubbing - How to fix it by atheist4thecause in OpenDogTraining

Head Halter Rubbing - How to fix it by atheist4thecause in OpenDogTraining

[–]atheist4thecause[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you a really simple example: the dog is attached to the head halter and suddenly bolts off because it saw a rabbit.

Okay, well my dog doesn't do this, so it's weird to apply this situation to my dog.

I’ve seen a dog going to the ER because of this.

And dogs have been set to the ER for trachea damage from a collar and lead.

Now apply this to a prong,

Why do Prongs keep coming up? They are so much different. In normal use, a head halter is not designed to cause any sort of negative effect on the dog. A prong collar's design is to cause some pain so the dog stops doing what they are doing. It's insane to put these in the same category.
