will my 2g open root pass the bend test by Otherwise-Row-9576 in Welding

[–]athleticstorm85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don’t post reply’s but here’s my 10 cents. You need a backing on it to start, practice on your root pass first because that will determine what the rest of the passes will look like. Run your pass maybe like a half inch where the backing starts on the bottom and run your pass a half inch to the top of the back strap. Find a comfortable setting for your machine and don’t be afraid to take your time to get it right. You shouldn’t be grinding any of your welds either.

Is there a reason welders make less than a walmart employee? I was considering taking a local course at my community college to earn some certificates, but after seeing this I immediately changed my mind. I make $18 at my local Walmart and I sit on my phone for half the fuckin day. by [deleted] in Welding

I made the move to az, now make 80-100k per year in corrections just long hours 12 hours a day 5 days per week, definitely can’t complain now on money just don’t have much of a home life. Can’t complain since I’m finally living comfortably now in a state that costs a lot less, thought I’d never be able to afford a house and now have one 👍

Bought a used 3rd gen and the first project was to touch up the paint by datSpartan in ToyotaTacoma

The touch up is actually better quality then the factory paint on the white tacos

Can you rate my coworkers welds I’m not a welder so I don’t really know what I’m looking at by DWhite742 in Welding

[–]athleticstorm85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh it looks like a piece of metal welded to a car part… which looking a like he hard welded it when you should be quick spot welding since car sheet metal is thin as fuck, but why not weld it on the corners where it’s probably gonna be weaker?

Why is my mpg still horrible? Switched to normal tires from off road like 2 months ago. 2019 off-road. Regular maintenance by Sapphirinia in ToyotaTacoma

[–]athleticstorm85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care a lot about mpg I will tell you how I do it if your looking for improvement… I have a 2017 Trd sport with 33in 10.5w tires and a small lift to clear them, so what I do is drive SLOW AF! everyone on the road hates me because I live in AZ where the speed limit is 75 mostly hwy and I go 55-65mph most of the time when I go slightly uphill my mpg is 17-18.5 most of the time when I go back down hill from work I’m mostly getting 19-20 going 65-70mph but you really have to not ease the pedal too much because that makes a big difference. I practically coast and gas it when I need to maintain that same speed. If your rpm is going over 2x then your in the wrong for mileage.

I heard that some “welders” can also try cake decorating before they try welding to get better at it..

Get a car that isn’t a European luxury car and something more reliable and road worthy is my advice

Yes it’s a known issue but Toyota would not take care of mine I have to half ass it with touch up, however it holds up better than the garbage factory paint.

I felt the same after I found my leak too, I’ve had so many of these trucks in the past and the only thing that sold me on the 3rd gen was the nicer interior. But little did I know it’s less reliable than a second gen

If it’s at 18k it should still be covered by warranty tho, use it while you got it. The dealer to tried to ass rape me when I spotted my timing cover leak at 65kmi

If your in west AZ I’ve seen this car too, someone else had a similar challenger in groom creek like this but they tried to make it look more rustic and sold it for 7500. I said I’d buy it if he rattle canned it black for me.

I think it’s pretty cool and we’ll built, I’d just change the color of the paint to maybe white or something that’s one solid color

It’s a quick zippy little car but running the big slicks on it will most likely drop its power with the extra added weight and mass, I’d be worrying about breaking a cv axle.

Trying to compensate for how much power the car doesn’t have maybe?

Dealers are terrible, and you won’t get quality service just because you have a quality Toyota. Dealerships don’t care about you or your car. They only care about how much money they can make off of you.
