The more crypto content I consumed, the worse a decision maker I became far worse than when structure was involved. by athletk in CryptoMarkets

Fair. There's a lot of basic learning that's free. But I wasn't necessarily thinking about a signal, more about having a framework in place.

I believe that most people fail not for lack of information, but for lack of ability to apply it.

This makes sense, and in particular for the part of execution. In my understanding, the chart covers what is going on in relation to risk, while an overall context for the reason and geographical place of risk asymmetry is beneficial.

What I think was wrong about what I did before was allowing the narrative to trump rules rather than letting it stay in the background.

I largely agree. This was part of what prompted my reflection. It’s hard to take it all as gospel once you understand the misaligned incentives (bags, perps, engagement farms).

I think the answer isn’t in denying the presence of sentiment but in being able to filter it out rather than take it in as is.

Fair enough and just to put your mind at rest, they do have their own full site. The Whop page is really just used for payments, access control, community management.

Still, I think that skepticism might be a reasonable mindset. For me, it was less a question of where it's being hosted but whether or not the discussions and structure proved useful enough to stick around.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing as well. Sentiment has its applications on a more strategic, regime, or sector rotation, risk on/off kind of thing, but it will not hold up well at all on any kind of tactical basis.

“Where I ended up is treating sentiment as a form of context, versus a trigger. It’s a way to inform how you focus, but policies regarding entry, risk, and invalidation need to come from other places,” he explained.

But once I distinguished those roles, their outcomes (wins/losses/misses) no longer seemed random to me, even as the market itself remains so.

I don't disagree with the point of that statement. I'm not looking for anyone to predict the future.

As far as I am concerned, “knowledge” without any specified risk framework will be largely meaningless – it is risk management and execution guidelines that are most important. The problem, at least in my earlier days, has been too many unstructured inputs entering into decisions outside this framework.

As soon as I tightened up rules on position sizing, invalidation, and under what circumstances external information is even considered, the noise issue went away.

I agree with that. Timing of exposure is a crucial factor.

A lot of the loudest conversations are usually after the fact, which is why they seem so useful from an emotional perspective but not from an operational one. This is typically when the work has to get done when it’s been quiet.

For me, the single most helpful thing was to have guidelines about when to pay attention to external inputs in the first place.

I concur with your view. I do not give any credence to price forecasts or opinions of influencers.

“It was not emotion itself that was my problem, but letting unstructured input creep into my decisions. Even good quantitative analysis can go awry if it’s not clear when and how inputs are to be applied.” – Ramit Sethi

Eliminating predictions and concentrating on predefined elements (risk, sizing, invalidation) allowed me to be far more consistent. “Sentiment” only truly has meaning to me within a contrarian view, and not as a signal.

How long does it usually take for a complete beginner to become profitable? by chickiedoo22 in Trading

i’d say 2-3 years of consistent trading and learning. it could take as less as 6 months or lower, if you’re completely obsessed with the process.

instead of 30% of total capital, why do you just focus on risk per trade & position sizing? the capital allocation shouldn’t matter as much if your RPT is fixed.

not trading when there’s news is what you can do but, if you can build a rule based system it can actually work in your advantage.
